RIP Terry Wogan. A cherished accompaniment to my drive to drop of the kids at school and then on to work. Tears of laughter not good at the wheel of a car when listening to him trying to complete a ridiculous 'Janet and John' story!
A Bill Shankly quote 'If you’ve got three Scots in your side, you’ve got a chance of winning something. If you’ve got any more, you’re in trouble'. But that was when there were more than two Scots who could play football.
Martinez is today quoted as believing Gareth Barry to be the best English player ever. He certainly looked good last night. Hardly misplaced a pass but got outpaced by Navas for the City goal. Nothing new there.
Very much my memories as well. I was the yokel at Grammar School and Posh when I was back in the village.
Still a very few with the local accent up this way.
When touring round Sussex with USA relatives I was surprised at the importance they placed on seeing the Seven Sisters. An iconic view of England they thought. Also showed them Rye with a pub meal at the Ypres.
I was lucky enough to go on the 'money cant buy' Press package for the MK Dons game together with a couple of friends. Combined with the pre-match Press conference on the Thursday we had an excellent time and were very well looked after by Paul Camillin. For some reason Gareth Southgate seemed...
Long long time ago sitting at trestle tables at the end of the main course a number of us scraped our leftovers onto one plate and left it in front of my mate. Teacher came by and told him he was not leaving until he'd eaten all his meal. To my shame we left him to it.
You are right there. Was in Greece earlier in the year and it's only recently that their problems are being recognised. (That is problems with illegal immigrants)
Haven't been since the start of summer but the camps that I was aware of (and I use the ferries) are to the east of Calais near the port. They are a long way from the Tunnel entrance. May have moved more recently. The impact that I have seen is on the town and inhabitants of Calais. They have my...
I was thinking of these old weavers houses around Fournier Street. reasonably quiet round there when I was there earlier this year. Some derelict and also some old shop fronts.
For something to do during the school summer holidays in the sixties and in our early teens some friends and I decided to cycle to Rye down that road. We lived near Flimwell. Having got there we cycled home via Hastings and the A21. Wouldn't fancy it now.
There were at least a couple of pubs in...
It's certainly not only Italy with this huge problem. I have recently returned from Greece and there it is similar only they are closer to the source -Turkey. Many of the Greek islands are not many miles from the Turkish coast. They also are looking for some sort of solution.
This thread saddens me. His own fans should be giving him confidence not running him down all the time. Perhaps it is difficult for him to find his best form in those circumstances but he can when he he plays for the international side where he does not feel under the same pressure.
