Early retirement caused by heart attack (mild) but loving life and discovering new hobbies all the time. Got back into fishing this year, plus got back to playing keyboards in my old band and rocking most Saturdays.

I have become one of those people that I used to think were very 'sad'! I have become a forager! and now make my own jams and spirits. So far: 8lbs of blackberry jam, 2ltrs of Blackberry vodka, 1ltr of Blackberry brandy, 2ltrs of slow gin and 1ltr of wild damson vodka! There must be equally sad...

We don't get many frosts down in Cornwall, last year had 4 and the first was in Jan! So I thought I would freeze them

Thanks for that and yes they do taste bloody awful but having taken early retirement and looking after the 'pennies' thought that this would be cheap option re: xmas presents! Oh do I hate myself for becoming the man I have always despised!

Have been searching for days and days and tonight found 'Sloe heaven'! 6lbs in 30mins but there is this one crop of sloes that are the 'mothers' of all 'SLOES' but about 15ft up! I want this Sloe so badly! What should I do?

56! And still rock and play in the Band every w/e, just takes a few days to recover! sadly I have now discovered the pleasures of 'making your own sloe gin/blackberry vodka' and have become obsessed with finding the 'perfect' Sloe! Oh and I still dance on tables at weddings when I'm 'Pissed'...

Its brilliant stuff, always carry it around with me after heart attack last year, and thankfully have only had to use it on the odd occasion. Leaves me with a strange headache but does the trick and the pain and increased heart rate decreases within minutes.

Quite a few people have commented about picking in October, apparently they are better after a frost! We have very few frosts in Cornwall so would freezing them be the next best thing?

Spent most of yesterday walking miles around the Cornish country side looking for Sloes to make sloe gin for Xmas. Not one Sloe to be found. Is there a Sloe shortage this year or am I missing something?
