Go and see The stranglers!
I have seen The Stranglers 4 times (most recently in Bristol last year) one of the most underrated bands still on the scene. Lots of familiar songs and great musicianship especially on 'Walk on By' and 'No More Heroes'.
I can't believe the stick that GG is getting. Whilst he has struggled a bit recently after injury, he remains an integral part of the defence and his partnership with Upson is amongst the best in the division. Greer's attributes include good positional sense and an excellent ability to read the...
Football pre-sky
Football today has it's unpleasant characteristics namely, prices which are too high, ditto for players wages, players diving and trying to get opponents sent off and the pervasive influence of agents but the game itself is infinitely better today. Players are more skillful and...
Losing 0-4 at home to Crewe in the February before Russell Slade's Houdini Act.
Also a 0-2 to Notts County in November 82. Not particularly significant....just dire! But we got to Wembley 6 months later!
Played for Loughborogh Uni 3rd team in the mid 80s. Away at Swansea in the UAU 1/4 finals. Went down the night before. Enjoyed a very cheap and quite tasty curry which ultimately nearly proved to be my undoing. Game started and felt ok. We were 1-0 up but I began to feel the need for an...
I would agree with most of the titles listed on this thread. Anything by Duncan Hamilton is worth a read ( he also writes on Cricket) The Robert Enke book is tremendous and another one by the same author, Ronald Reng, is ' Keeper of Dreams' which looks at Barnsley's keeper Lars Leese. around...
There are some excellent presenters on BBC 5 Live 606 football phone-in especially Mark Chapman but I can't really see what Kelly Cates and IanWright add to the Sunday night version. I've just listened to the programme which got bogged down talking about the FA commission. Tedious beyond...
I was at Yeovil today. It wasn't great but I think a lack of confidence is the problem rather than a lack of effort or ability.
TK. 7. Looked assured apart from one crazy dribble across the box
Bruno 5 not as bad as some on this site have said but his crossing was poor
Greer. 6. Sound enough...
I was working as a waiter at that time for the Little Chef ( now sadly no longer with us) on the A23 near Hickstead. I remember coach loads of Chelsea fans 'stopping by' for some refreshment. No actual aggro but an air of menace. I wasn't surprised to hear of the trouble at the match.
Spurs April 1978
I was on the north west terrace for this game(getting into the ground at 1230 for a 3pm kick off) and watching in amazement as hundreds of Albion fans were chased out of the North Stand. The fans jumped into the NW area right by us. It was terrifying. There must have been...
I live in Bath which is closer to Bristol and a lovely city but not cheap! Bradford upon Avon, Corsham, Chippenham all in Wiltshire are good alternatives. In Somerset, have a look at Frome, Peasedown and Keynsham.
Good luck!
I referee both Football and Rugby at secondary school level (I'm a PE teacher) and feel that although, in my opinion Football is a better game because of its simplicity, the level of conduct between players and referees is far more civilised in Rugby because, the referee can move the ball...
Hardest school in Sussex?
I went to the Oakmeeds Academy for the Gifted and Talented in Burgess Hill the early 1980s I remember a particularly 'spicy' cup match against Stanley Deason which was a bit of an 'eye opener' for those of us who went to relatively 'soft' provincial schools. Bishop...
The recent Easter matches and the media coverage of homophobic chanting reminded me of an incident at the Goldstone (Easter Monday 1979) v Bristol Rovers. It was hot and packed with over 32,000 fans as The Albion pushed for promotion from old league 2. With Brighton cantering to an easy 3-0...
My wife is going to see the Manet Art exhibition at The Royal Academy in London tomorrow with her mum and sister. Overall cost of the 3 tickets is £ 45. This is to see (her words) ' hundreds of priceless , world famous paintings'
I have paid nearly £70 for 3 tickets to see Brighton v Charlton...
We live in Bath so I don't get to many matches nowadays but my 12 year old son is going to his first Albion game at the Amex on Tuesday night; he's so excited!
Reminds me of how I felt before my first ever Albion game.
November 1974 v Aldershot, won 1-0, Fred Binney (I think) scored, very...
First post!
He's my local Lib Dem councillor in Bath. Lives about 200 yards down the road. Not a lot of use when we were trying to get planning permission and it was refused for some nimbyish reason. For some strange reason, I kept picturing him on top of a bonfire.
Excellent site.
Keep up the...
