I was lucky enough to enjoy a good programme of sport at school with plenty of fixtures (including Saturday mornings) and decent levels of coaching; this was in the early 80s before the teaching strike. Today, there is a far better club structure than there used to be with improved coaching and...
As far as I'm aware, there is nothing in the laws in Football to this effect. Surely a sin bin (10 minutes) and a yellow card for any gob shite would reduce this problem in a few weeks? I'd also include 'brandishing' cards as a yellow card offence.
I go on the Dover to Calais ferry occasionally. I have always wondered why it is that British motorists have to buy 'patches' for their car headlights to stop the 'dazzle' for other drivers when driving on the right hand side of the road, but, to my knowledge, foreign drivers don't have to buy...
I don't mind the odd kick about, but what I object to is the organised training sessions, 6-a-side tournaments, academy development trials etc.
The Football season is long enough as it is. September until April is plenty of time to train and play. Kids should do summer sports in the summer...
I'm going on Friday night. Can't wait.
On a related issue. Does the phrase ' Jonny come lately... JCL ... Originally come from The Eagles hit song 'New Kid in Town'?
Sin bins for yellow cards. 10 minutes. Move the ball forward 10 yards for any dissent (and a yellow card) at a free kick. Let the team conceding a goal kick-off when they, and the ref, are ready, to prevent ridiculous goal celebrations. Referee to refer any possible penalty decisions to 4th ref...
Great 2nd half by New Zealand and they deserved to win by more than one point but great credit to England for digging in and withstanding such an onslaught. Is it just me or do international refs give the NZ the benefit of the doubt on too many occasions? Forward passes ignored, 'fringeing' at...
Lucky enough to have been to about 60 countries. Best so far have been South Africa, Cuba, Iceland and USA (most
visited before children and a hefty mortgage!)
It was disappointing to read in the Daily Mail about Lou Vincent who alleges that he was paid to 'throw' matches whilst at Sussex, Lancs and in India. An (unnamed) England test player was also approached at the same time. I do hope this isn't factually correct but I suspect it might be the tip...
I don't know what has been more depressing; a lack of quality on the ball, a lack of bite in the tackle, general slowness of thought and movement, tactical ineptitude ( why was Buckley playing if he was injured, too many long balls, anonymity of Orlandi and Lingaard, substitutions too late)...

Looking forward to listening to the radio coverage of Liverpool v Manchester City whilst driving down to Cornwall for a family holiday. However, had to suffer Aberdeen v St Johnstone on the BBC ! So, the biggest game of the season ( and by all accounts one of the best) and the 90% of people in...

Where I live, the local Rugby team, Bath, plays in a packed but dilapidated stadium ( but it's set in an iconic city centre location) Its a big Rugby area and definitely has a middle / upper middle class feel. The crowds are generally knowledgeable, polite and enjoy the 'experience'. However...
In most jobs you can operate a few degrees below par and get away with it; you can't in professional sport and being a batsman in test cricket is probably the most unforgiving environment of all as it only takes one small error and your game is over. I think the amount you're paid and the perks...
Most people don't have to go to work on a Monday morning and face a hostile crowd of 50,000 Aussies screaming abuse, 11 opponents in your 'ear hole' all the time, intense media scrutiny and millions of arm chair pundits who think they know best. Professional sportsmen and women have to be...
There seems to be a drift towards Rugby amongst younger kids no doubt influenced by their parents who see better values being taught and better role models at the highest level. This is despite the best efforts of the FA to try to improve the image of the game at grass roots level. Until...
Interesting to hear those pantomime villains, Robbie Savage and Joey Barton being interviewed at half time at Twickenham. Both expressed surprise that you could sit next to opposition fans, enjoy a beer and a chat and not be subjected to a barrage of bad language. Er, isn't that true of all...
