“just about”Did he win every header?
I am sure he lost some , but I thought he did ok in the air ..

I only remember him going for 3 and he lost all of them…
Cashin more willing to be an understudy perhaps?Puzzling indeed - £9M splashed out for Cashin while practically giving McConville away did seem odd; still does IMHO.
Don’t know, Dunk vs Mateta is a worry for me after struggling with strong centre forwards in the past (Lukaku, Mitrovic)If Dunk isn’t fit to start against Palace we’re in massive trouble
Ireland fans are also having a pop.
Yes, you need some genuine speed machines on the pitch to cover the breakaways. We look far less susceptible when Baleba and Minteh play.Which made playing a high line even more puzzling, when there isnt any real pace at the back bar Lamptey when he plays.
and Pervis , which is a problem if he is taking corners....Which made playing a high line even more puzzling, when there isnt any real pace at the back bar Lamptey when he plays.
I’d love to see those highlights as I remember him being beaten in the air at least twice.According to the stats, he had 3 aerial duels and won 2 of them.
This. Mind boggling signing from one appearance. And yes it's one game but it's clear that he doesn't have the attributes needed. He is slow for a PL defender and not strong in the air (not that tall). These are two far more important attributes than being able to pass the ball which our FOUR current CB's can all do.The real question for me is why are we not valuing pace as an asset for defenders? I get that pacier players are relatively more expensive but surely our fabled data could factor that in- ie “actually this kid will need to really work on his passing and he can be a bit rash but he’s super quick so there’s potential there”. You can’t really get quicker. You can learn to pass, you can improve your positional play etc etc.
Seems like such a blind spot.
Or we could do something really crazy- spend 30-40 million on a decent defender rather than another winger.
Don't need much pace if you read the game well. The brilliant 2 meter ball-playing CB who will catch Elanga in a sprint doesn't exist and to the extent it does, that player will be the leading player in the title winning team.As others have said, the thing we're CRYING out for is pace at CB. Cashin does not seem to be that.
Some were just plain abusive and apart from anything else show a scary lack of awareness of effects such comments can have. Not the debut he'd have wanted but looking at some of the comments on here, maybe the debut a section of our 'fans' wanted for him.
Really?I find the direction of this thread utterly bizarre.
I don't have an opinion whatsoever of Cashin, as I need at least a few games to formulate an opinion?
Debuts are weird and are frequently not a sign of things to come, especially as a substitute.
My gut feeling is that he'll be a decent player, purely because our club rarely signs players that are shite?
Yes, Wieffer can play CB. But if there's one opponent guaranteed to get Dunky through 90 minutes on adrenaline alone, it's this one.Worryingly he came on because Dunk was knackered and we have no other option. In less than 2 days we play Crystal f***ing Palace, so the chances of Dunk being 90 minutes ready on Saturday when he wasn't yesterday must be very slim. Which means.........
Can Wieffer play CB?
