How on earth would the standard be the same in the PL as it is now if you cut wages and other leagues are paying more? Players will go where the money is, as they do at the moment.

Thankfully you don't have to take my word for it about the Football League being in serious trouble without the PL money

- There is growing frustration among EFL clubs as chair Rick Parry has insisted huge swathes of their 72 clubs will go under without financial support from the Premier League -

Finance from a TV deal and sponsorship driven by the top clubs in the PL.

Tell you what, write to Brighton and ask why they charge more money for Cat A games, more people want to go and they can and ask why the 14 didn't vote to ban the 6 who went off to the super league.

The Amex was empty yesterday, if it was V United it would have been packed.

On Mothers Day after a midweek European trip.

What you fail to understand is that “Big 6” is a marketing concept, nothing more. If the current big 6 divorce themselves from the football pyramid, a few of the remaining clubs will have success and become the big <however many there are>

The Big 6 are dead, long live the big 6 sums it up. We’ll still get to see some brilliant football, there’s nothing to say that any ESL is financially sustainable. I will be watching Brighton, I certainly won’t be bankrolling any nobber who thinks they’re too good to take their chances with relegation.

Just like the Premier League was a reboot of the old Division One, the new Premier League would have its stars. There’s nothing to suggest that any ESL would be able to offer better wages/contracts than the Premier League, most of the teams who are calling for it seem teetering on the edge of bankruptcy to me.

I’ll cheerily wave goodbye to any club who feel they’re too big to compete within Premier League/UEFA rules.

I'm all in favour of it as long as the clubs that join are barred from domestic competition.
Absolutely. It would be a breath of fresh air. Less money of course but all that means is players being paid less. Reading that the championship is the 10th most attended League in the world and, dare I say, I team like mine averaging 27,000 in the third tier shows you that not everyone gives a crap about the 'big 6'

Indeed the myopic view he has is that of a superior club fan ignorance. He'll be singing you've only come to see the Spurs. The fact lower league football has seen a huge rise in attendances right down the pyramid, Hastings getting over 2500 to their home games, suggests the game itself is healthy. What's wrong with it is the over inflated costs of running the top teams wholly caused by the big 6 and their greed causing the pressure downwards on the rest.

If they do go then there will be a realisation that clubs will have cut costs. There will still be top players playing in the league to full crowds with supporters supporting their team. Of course there would be huge financial pain in the short term but it will survive. Players will still earn a very good wage just not these utterly stupid ones we see currently.

I don't wish to see a SL and would not be interested in it in the slightest. I would suggest there's many like me.

Sorry, but that is a complete load of nonsense. The new big 6 will not have huge global fans bases and thousands of tourists wanting to come to every game. They will be exactly the same as the next biggest 6 are now.

I’m not arguing there’d be no reduction in revenue, there absolutely would be, but I see loyalty being split three ways:

1. Many (a majority) will follow their existing club into the SPL.

2. Some (a few) will peel away and form or support “phoenix” clubs like Salford.

3. Some (a few) will switch allegiance to another established team.

Internationally, those who break away will be able to maintain their international franchise fan base. Locally, in the U.K. I predict a certain degree of backlash.

Football existed before the Premier League broke away and it will continue to exist if the laughably named “Big 6” choose to feck off to play in their super duper mega jumbo league.

Edit: you seem to be forgetting that the current “big 6” gained their reputation after repeated success in their domestic league and UEFA competition. Why do you believe that the existing “big 6” are so exalted and sacrosanct that no other teams could ever garner international fame and support?
