Right, I'm getting in ahead of everyone else: Jewell was a jammy little shyte while here. His SA recruitment was overrated -- look at Caicedo now, didn't he realise he was over-hyped? -- and he did a goddamn awful job as Head of Recruitment, @Justice has spoken on what an awful signing Baleba was, and we all know the direct connection between justice and truth.

Disagree - South American transfers have been built on a long period of work and trust with local agencies and contacts driven by Sam who learnt Spanish and spent long periods in the region.

Being able to navigate complex deals and understanding ownership models etc of players will take a long time to rebuild, if someone hasn’t already been involved
But we have the reputation as a club now in South America that we didn’t have three/four years ago. He might have done some good work individually but we will benefit as a club as a whole from the work he and others have put in over there over the past few years.

Not concerned about this. One day those embarassing chav twats will realise they can’t actually buy the one absolute main reason for our success.

So what happens when Chelsea want to sign Mbappe or anyone else outside South America?
Jewell is a negotiator, a middle man, he doesn’t identify these targets, our data model does. He’s replaceable, as was Winstanley.

Caicedo was also identified by Man Utd but felt the deal was too ‘complex’ - with many parties claiming a share in Moises.

So individuals who can navigate it all and get deals done are the difference. Anyone can identify South American internationals 🤷🏻‍♂️

Jewell's replacement will be in mind as we know. Jewell won't have been working the Spanish speaking America's alone, he is part of a team. As an aside, Bruno might like to get on board in the absence of any other offers. Speaks Spanish better than Sam Jewell, knows the club, intelligent guy and available at the moment.

I’ve heard he’s accepted the offer and the club expect him to leave.

FWIW good for him, he has done some really good work for us, giving us almost 8 years of his career and this would be a big step for him. On our side, I’ve got no worries we’ll find a more than adequate replacement.

Would Bruno be trusted a second time?

In what other industry would this happen? Jewell has been in position for about 2 years, hardly ‘expert’ status is it.
I’d be amazed if he didn’t have a significant garden leave period in his contract.
He’s been with us for 8 years almost, and fully responsible for our South American recruitment. Huge loss.

Why didn’t Chelsea keep Bruno then and promote him upstairs if the only qualification you need is to speak Spanish. There is a reason why Jewel is being head hunted and I don’t think it’s for his bi lingual skills.

Glad FFP is working as well, where Super Club Everton and Nottingham Forest gets a point deduction. Where as one club can swap players out to Saudi Clubs with associated owners to satisfy restrictions. Furthermore they buy one head of recruitment and when he ends up producing a load of cannon fodder, they just go and get another head of recruitment, and it just goes round again while two clubs get relegated through deductions for at least trying to challenge the cabal.

No no.
Ambitious clubs like Chelsea, Man City and Newcastle are the VICTIMS of FFP. It is very very unfair that clubs owned by petro-states and billionaires aren't allowed to spend as much as they want to buy the league.

It's difficult to see how, in the longer term, this continuing exodus of key recruitment staff to rich competitors will not be damaging to the club. They take with them the knowledge of how our recruitment system works and will be applying it for the benefit of their new employers who, again in the longer term, will no longer need to buy imported talent from Brighton at massively inflated prices because they will already have imported them from under the noses of Brighton in locality and by offering them immediate riches way beyond what we can or will be offering. And thus our supply line dries up because they've successfully cut out the middle man.

Maybe to some extent but they don’t all have the supporting infrastructure/academies to the same standard, they absolutely can’t offer the same demonstrable pathway to the first team and they still have the impatience of their owners and fans to contend with requiring instant gratification. Most of all, though, they don’t have Tony’s algo or database - without that they are not going to have anything like the same ability to identify targets.

Barco came to us rather than Man City……..

Did Barco ever have a choice though ? Man City never bid for him or triggered his release clause right?

No, but they could have. He chose to trigger it to come to us.
That’s what I mean he never had a choice to make because City may only have been ‘interested’ but seemingly not enough to make an actual move
