Three and half seasons of Potter & people only remember the half. Before he discovered the Caciedo/Mac midfield it was pretty dire viewing. The bottom half possession based team that couldn’t score for shite.

There were times when we were poor, but there were also times when we were great. The important thing about Potter, was he oversaw the transition from team fighting relegation to team capable of a top 10 finish and better. He laid the foundations for De Zerbi. Arguably the evolution on the pitch during Potters reign was one of the most important periods during the clubs history.
In my opinion under De Zerbi we've played the best football in the club's history, but I don't think that would have been possible without Potter's spell in charge.

This, he’s slated us as a club with little ambition surprised anyone would want him back.
Well, didn't RDZ say that some of his players "deserves to play at another level" ... (maybe it was some kind of deliberate curse from RDZ, Caicedo is really on another level now).

I think he was good at helping us transition, however he was disrespectful to the fans who had been extremely patient with him. That year when we had one win at home. A few boos? He was lucky to receive only that. History lesson, what an entitled prat.
The 3k who watched us away were the lucky ones.

Totally agree. He had a helping hand by 1 season basically being behind closed doors. Imagine him with a home crowd on his back during a bad run, like currently at Palace or West Ham. Don't get me wrong, I'm proud our fanbase gives managers time. However, he did not handle his reception back at the Albion well at all. Glow up Graham disappeared quite quickly at Chelsea once the criticism started. He would not be given the same patience by the fans second time around.

You seem to be saying nobody could have done what GPott did, I doubt that.
In a parallel universe Mr Bloom takes the other road and doesn't 'waste' a further 18 months watching some pretty turid football while the manager figures it out.
De Zerbi signs on because he can see the underachievement oozing out of the players.
Despite me writing that in the main I was #TeamPotter, just, but let's not forget he was to managing the Albion what Trossard was to playing for them.

Cashiedo losing the ball in midfield is nothing new because he plays for a so called big team it’s being highlighted. Good player although he should have played with us for one or two seasons more before moving on he wasn’t ready.

I guess he'll feel he's a good fit for one of the bigger clubs but I think he needs to prove himself lower down the ladder. He showed himself as a very capable manager with us but only after a period of relative struggle, cant see west ham showing the patience Bloom and our fans did before it all clicked.
I also think Moyes is doing much better than people give him credit, I suspect Potter wouldn't improve their results only their style of play. Moyes is somewhat negative but a decent manager with a proven track record, Potter would be lining himself for a career damaging failure IMO
I think his best move would be to a Championship club with one of the bigger budgets.

It’s the style of play that the West Sham fans are moaning about, Hughton tactics with better players enabling them to pick up a few more wins than Chrissy. I watched their game at Manure Moyes didnt try to win and looked happy coming a way with a 2-0 defeat.

In English football he hasn’t won anything or really achieved anything apart from getting a lower/mid table PL side to the dizzy heights of eh one place above mid table.
A feat many a manager has achieved with a lower ranked side the ginger darlek finished higher once with Burnley.

Yes I think his spell in charge did lay the foundation for the current success. I'm not saying Tony Bloom didn't have a role in the progression, I'm not saying Potter did it on his own. Im definitely not saying "nobody could have done what Potter did", those are your words not mine. Maybe if we'd appointed De Zerbi after Hughton he would have taken us to this height, but we'll never know. What we do know is that we appointed Potter and he did take the club to a new level.
What I was saying, was in reply to someone dismissing Potter's time here, and I was pointing out that his tenure here was a really crucial one for the club.
I get people are upset with Potter and the way he left the club, but I think its bizarre that people are now dismissing his spell as nothing special. It's rewriting history. He did a fantastic job for us.

I think you're right in saying De Zerbi after Hughton wouldn't have worked.
But although his time here wasn't 'nothing special' he was far from fantastic.
A manager doing a fantastic job would have transitioned the team from Hughton to De Zerbi on his own and in half the time.
Has any manager anywhere (in the top division I mean) ever completely turned around a team's style of play and improved the results over a whole season without any investment in the squad at all?
That seems an incredibly harsh bar to set anybody.
