Apparently, even deciding who might win is taboo in the nicey-nicey, crisp munching world of The Hundred....

Gutted. All Skips fans round my neck of the woods.
Rockets spanked Brave earlier with the Marchant De Lange 5 for, so I was hopeful tonight........... but when it really mattered we got double spanked right back.
Quinton de Kock has been superb. Hope Brave win it.

Hope it pisses with rain all day, thought I hated the FA and FIFA, but the ECB have left them far behind in the loathing stakes.

I'm a massive cricket fan and wanted to give this a chance but have completely failed. Watched about 30 minutes in total of the whole thing
I appreciate I'm not really the target audience and I do think it's a possible gateway for kids to get into cricket but I do worry about the domestic game

God, there are some miserable old gits on here!
To counter this, my 8yo caught a bit of the Hundred on TV last week - first time he's shown any interest in cricket. He asked if we could go. I said next year, but managed to get tickets for yesterday.
Boys loved it, despite the one-sidedness. We're all keen to go next summer.
PS Said 8yo is very good at throwing/catching and is sporty in general. So this might lead him to trying the game (already does footnall and hockey). Another win.

Give the Manchester Originals a call and he'll probably get a trial. In the one game I managed to last the lot of they didn't look as if they could catch Covid.

yes I think your son is the target audience really, as will be mine when he's a bit older. Can't imagine anything worse than taking a kid to a county championship match for example (I must have been dragged to a few when I was a kid but the alternatives now for kids are so much more abundant) but could see taking him to this
and yes, I think a key difference with the hundred and other formats is the accessibility for the casual viewer. Most people have access to the BBC

Oh I take it all back; a few friends that vaguely follow cricket are a bit interested.
That was well worth binning the 4 day County Championship game then...
As you know, my experience is exactly the same. My 10 yo previously disinterested in cricket absolutely loved it at Southampton and went on to watch the game last night with me. Ignore the miserablists, the Hundred is reaching out to a new demographic and doing it well.God, there are some miserable old gits on here!

He won't be playing cricket in the future though will he? As in playing the proper game, aspiring to 4 day County or Test Cricket.
Still if he can hit a six off a hugely shortened bounday or get a wicket off a long hop the ECB's vision will have come true...
I'll let him know you've got his life mapped out for him.
Oh, and I'll let Merstham cricket club know that it's pointless him playing for them after all, because (unlike you obviously) he isn't going to play 4 day county cricket.

Never got anwhere near County Standard, just played for my Grammar School, lapsed for years but now playing for the local Club Veterans (I'm still rubbish).
Doesn't make my my viewpoint invalid. Are you happy how County and Test Cricket are going?
Ah now that's a different conversation! In answer to your question, cricket needs to find a way to become relevant mainstream whilst not losing sight of the fact that test match cricket will remain the pinnacle. To that end, I'd happily bin off 50 over cricket, merge the Hundred and T20 (fewer teams,more matches, play most games at test match locations but play some at hove, Derby etc) and add insurance days to 4 day matches.

Haven't watched any of the games but I'm surprised by how long it seems to take to bowl the said, Hundred deliveries? .. 5Live was trying to puff the finals day by giving score updates by scores/ balls and it seems like they get through an over at glacial speed. Are they fannying around with music, fireworks and dancers between every ball?

Sounds like the official BBC hype, don't forget to mention the fantastic crowds, the wonderful atmosphere and the fantastic crowds! .. I watched for five minutes and saw a bit of a T20/ going through the motions limited overs match. the " Fantastic Crowds " did not seem to be that excited by the flat batted singles through midwicket/ Square leg, or the drives to long on /off for singles either. When Moeen tried to do something " atmospheric " he chipped to deep mid off and was caught..
