If a stranger approached you in the street and asked for your ID we would all say and rightly so F off. Stewards are strangers I don’t know them why the feck would I show my ID to some uni student earning a few extra quid? invasion of privacy on a massive scale. Barber taking the absolute piss if you ask me and the question would it happen in league 1 would it bollocks.

Then go and watch football in league 1 then!

What a bizarre statement you've posted. You're quite happy that the club hold your details, address, bank details and loads of other stuff but you baulk at confirming who you are when you want to get into the ground.

You've got to laugh at this sort of thread!

1. Is it POTG? No, right then that the last time I'll be going to watch Brighton, it's non league for me.
2. All seater stadium. Right then that the last time I'll be going to watch Brighton, it's non league for me.
3. Can't take my pint to my seat. Right then that the last time I'll be going to watch Brighton, it's non league for me.
4. Can't park in the streets near the ground. Right then that the last time I'll be going to watch Brighton, it's non league for me.
5 Can't smoke anywhere within the ground. Right then that the last time I'll be going to watch Brighton, it's non league for me.
6. Can't let an adult use junior's ticket without a surcharge as it's a night game. Right then that the last time I'll be going to watch Brighton, it's non league for me.
7. Can't let any tom dick or harry use 'my' season ticket. Right then that the last time I'll be going to watch Brighton, it's non league for me.
8. Ban flasks. Right then that the last time I'll be going to watch Brighton, it's non league for me.
9. Prove I'm the person who I claim to be using this ticket. Right then that the last time I'll be going to watch Brighton, it's non league for me.

It's a wonder we actually get so called supporters turn up at all!!!

It was always going to be painful when the club ended the unofficial practice of mates and family sharing season tickets.

Which reduced the churn of tickets making those on the waiting list wait a whole lot longer (but does the list exist just now?) and reducing revenue … they make more per ticket from match-day sales.

The club aren’t the first to deal with this. Other clubs shied away, creating in effect season tickets that passed down generations. In the end grasping the nettle.

Is it really that much of an issue to show your driving license on the way in to the ground ?

It is for me - which is why I'm not happy with this ID business.

For everyday life, I use my middle name and that's the name my season ticket is in but my passport and driving licence uses my full name. I've had difficulties with this before so I'm hoping that the steward is not looking too closely and will happily accept a photo.

Your choice of course, but that seems a rather unnecessary...complication.

My son has two middle names, but got absolutely SPANNERED last year as he only put one of them on his employee ID. He works at Shoreham Port, so when the Border Control did a random spot check on his employee ID and his passport status, it caused no end of aggro, involving a 2 week suspension from work whilst all the the bureaucracy got worked out. Which it did in the end, but what an absolute joke. He'd been there 3 years.

If the ID stasi have a mind to, they can really fook things up for people.

It is complicated but that's because so many forms ask for full name and automatically accept the first name as the one to use. My passport uses my full name as that's the one on my birth certificate and my driving licence uses passport data. But when filling in most forms, I just use my middle name.

I'm scarcely weird for doing this; many people use their middle name rather than their first (including the current prime minister and three other prime ministers in my lifetime).

It's something that's easily solved by adding an additional field to forms asking which name is preferred (some forms do this) it's an absolute pain otherwise.

I hope they just look at the photo and that's enough but I've had run-ins before when even photo ID was enough to overturn the issue of the name discrepancy.

They don’t hold any of that information I like to pay my money and watch a game if I fancy it same as I’ve always done for thirty five years. It’s mean to be a past time a day of relaxation where no one cares who you are just another Albion fan watching a game. I don’t want to be stressing out opening apps getting ID ready at the border it’s madness fair play if it doesn’t bother you I just like to be left alone.

When it comes to the current Prime Minister, if he gave me a weather report I'd stick my hand out the window. I can think of few people more deserving of an intimate cavity search by a former GB shot-putter in a basement office at Luton Airport.

As an aside, I've got a mate (British) who happened to be born in Libya. Thats not an ideal feature on anyones passport.

So you don’t buy tickets in advance anyway ? How many games do you actually get to watch in a season ?

It’s only a (very) noisy and entitled minority complaining though. We also have plenty of supporters just really looking forward to Burnley, Watford and beyond.

Blimey, what sort of measures are we going to have in place at the Amex? Barber's not messing about, is he? :lolol:

BTW, I was wrong about PMs not using their first name - there haven't been four in my lifetime, there have been six. That's an indication of how common it is

Most home games when not working why? Of course you can by tickets in advance, the point your missing is not everyone for whatever reason wishes to give out their true identity. Some people’s lives are complicated that’s all I’m saying.

I am a bit confused by this problem. Why can’t you use your ‘official’ name as required and your ‘unofficial’ name for everything else ? If it were me I would ring the club and tell them you will need to change the first name on the ST to match official ID so you can pass any ID checks they introduce.

Well, if all this kerfuffle is going to mean we finally find Lord Lucan then it can only be a good thing….

Are you sure about that? I believe I read that we have one of the highest spends per head but it would be going some if the average spend was higher than the income from pro rata season ticket price even after taking off vat.

So what is happening is OK according to some?

Someone can be born as a male, noted on their birth certificate, spend most of their life as a male, but at age 47 suddenly expect that colleagues and others must refer to them as 'she'. But if John Rodney Martin Smith chooses not to use all of his names and just goes by John Rodney Smith, he can be suspended from work and possibly not paid for two weeks?

Its a mad, mad world we live in!

I’d read that as meaning sales of match day tickets (ie tickets at full price rather than the discounted ST price) - if not, I’d agree. Average spend per matchgoer on other stuff will be nowhere near the ticket price….

Can’t believe the number of people getting so wound up about a quick flash of their driving licence to get into the ground.
