Not being a stockbroker, I could only afford in the double figures. Yet I had a flutter on that election in the (GMT) morning after the night before, when Biden's odds slipped to 15/8. I've sat on the proceeds, but now gone to the RNLI.

I did well on that too, rare bets, BUT my mistake was going for a Democrat Senate … I lost by the narrowest margin.

My coup was a large stake on Kyle retaining Hove Dec’19 GE. The national bookies had it down as a tight race. Simply by living in this city, I knew he was an incredibly popular MP.

My biggest coup was betting on Tony Bloom's horse in the virtual Grand National last year. I felt guilty about winning a pile because the bookie said it was giving all the profits to the NHS charity. I ended up giving it away.

:lolol:

And a plea to the mods, this is a decent thread and derailers are self-defined ban-dippers. ???

Please don't bear pit this thread, chaps.

They won't. For two reasons. The RNLI is getting money for this and the detractors are staying away in the main because they know that a line has been crossed in the way the RNLI has been brought into things. I couldn't help that little joke and I avoided confrontation. I even watered down its content. And I've just set up a regular gift too. This is NSC at its best.

RNLI crews really are a different breed and take the definitions of courage, selflessness, humanity and hope to whole new levels.

The fact that crews (and beach lifeguards) are all unpaid volunteers too is mind-blowing and some of the conditions they unhesitatingly put to sea in to rescue those in peril defies belief. Hard to think of a group of men and women more deserving of our respect and support.
