I was reading a bit about 'deplatforming' the other day, and does it work etc etc, and came across this superb line about Milo Yiannopoulos:
"What does he actually believe in? Nothing except his own brand and the monetisable notoriety that fuels it." Nailed it.
On a side note to all of this I'd be intrigued to know what she genuinely believes in versus what builds her brand. It's by no means a new concept for someone to play a character knowing it'll appeal more to solidifying a brand or similar.
Take Paris Hilton, the original reality TV airhead. In joke was she wasn't that stupid, she wasn't a genius but the dumb rich blonde girl was a great hook. It's a default play pushed by many reality tv stars (playing dumb makes you more loveable and the public will more readily accept this type of act). Ironically it's spmething Boris incoporated years back (many anecdotes of people who worked with him pointing out how razor sharp he is until the cameras get rolling and just prior to it he'll ruffle up his hair etc).
Katie was/is a version of the shock jock. I know of one podcaster from the US who used to appear on Fox News to provide the alternative view. He's implied a few times that certain folks there don't believe their spiel and after ranting at him on air were very cordial to him and admitted it was an act off air.
Katie will probably end up on RT or similar as a talking head. I think the problem for twitter is that it's becoming toxic and has been around long enough to start to be on the wane. There's a new geberation to be courted and they've grown up watching their parents rant on twitter. Perhaps they won't be as keen on it and as such the subscribers plummet. I think twitter will have to start cleaning house a bit.

Last week, a lawyer for Tucker Carlson said his viewers don’t expect him to tell the truth. Which is patently tripe of the most rancid kind, but it proves your point, that they have that ‘out’. How many times has Trump said something only to walk it back and say he was only kidding? Just last night he was at it again.
