Indeed! Sorry to have started this thread - if I'd waited 15 minutes I would have saved myself (and others) a bit of time

Even for this inept government that was a impressively quick U-turn. How can they get things so wrong? They’ll have to rethink the relaxation of all rules in 3 weeks time when we’ve got 75,000 cases a day and the NHS is grinding to a halt.

When people see politicians ignoring rules they created, ignoring legitimate calls to resign and acting so clearly in their own self interest is it any wonder that Laws are increasingly being ignored by great swathes of society? This is not a party political point as Labour were no better. The self serving actions of these people is directly accelerating the breakdown of law and order IMO.

How do you dissuade someone from deleting the app when they see their elected leaders circumventing their own system? Regardless of the facts of this pilot scheme it looks and smells rancid...

At 10am Housing Minister Robert Jenrick was telling Sky News Boris and Rishi would be testing daily but otherwise carrying on as normal. This is the same guy that gave planning permission to a development 24 hours before a multi- million pound penalty could be triggered by the local council. Tory scum.

It's 20 organisations (not sure if that qualifies as "numerous"). And I'm glad that they WILL be self-isolating....apart from going to work!! Could everyone else please have the same scheme? I think we'd all be able to produce a nice little definition of what qualifies as essential for our work.

Don't forget being pinged by the app is only advisory to isolate, not mandatory!

From my understanding they weren't pinged, they were contacted by Test & Trace, which means self isolation is a legal requirement.

I spent over 12 months helping run my company - from home. Has Video Conferencing not reached Central Government yet? Self isolating doesn't mean being locked in a padded cell. Can the country not be run if the PM doesn't don a white hat and pretend to make a cake or car?

They have reversed that decision. I am not sure how that works as Boris had full,blown COVID and was hospitalised. So why isolate again, unless he is being socially responsible so he doesn’t give it to his hundreds of kids.

Horrible statistic last week on 24 hours in A&E that 1 in 6 people who were in ITU with COVID were back in hospital 6 weeks after they were discharged. This is a vicious little bugger!,

If you’re pinged by the app it’s ’advisory’ and not legally required.

Yeah, I heard this morning when my daughter texted from her self isolation. It’s certainly hypocritical and an own goal. You do wonder whether they are bothered about winning the next election. It also makes a nonsense of all the accusations of populism. I would say they are the complete opposite of a populist Government.

This must be one of the fastest government U-turns ever: 157 minutes after saying the PM and chancellor wouldn't be isolating, Downing Street decided they would.

The reason is set out by Rishi Sunak on Twitter - ministers can't be seen to be following different rules to everyone else.

But questions will be asked about why No 10 initially said they would be escaping isolation. Who made the decision? Who signed it off? The prime minister and chancellor must have known about the plan.

There's also the fact that the PM and chancellor had the choice over whether to isolate - which most people don't at the moment.

The political symbolism is also highly significant. Three senior government ministers will be in isolation on the day almost all legal restrictions are lifted in England.

How many people who get pinged are actually isolating, I wonder? And how many people for the nice week ahead are saying they need to isolate and not bothering to go to work when they can spend some time outside?

With the app it's easy to both delete it and also to just turn contact tracing off. There must be a lot of people who are doing that and side-stepping the whole "getting pinged" problem.
