Abour 30 years ago, when cable was first installed into our house, one of the channels available was CMTV (Country Music TeleVision), and they played on there (only once, or at least I only saw it once) a song called Compassion Road (I think), about a situation where a young white boy went to the aid of his young black friend - from a fire, IIRC (OK, maybe not mainstream country as we know it!) - I thought it was a great song, really loved it. No idea who the band was - back then there was no play back even on Cable TV - but never been able to track it down, no matter how hard I try to Google it.

Any internet whizz-kids who can find it - £10 to the REMF.

EDIT: Posted before watching, and having watched it, it seems so familiar. I, too, used to watch CMT. I think I first avoided it, but accidentally landed on it when it was sandwiched between vh-1 and mtv, and discovered I liked a lot of the songs (I think the first one I saw was standing outside the fire). So I may have seen it before
