Nice! Congratulations to Ben - the sky's the limit for you young man.

I reckon he'll end up in the first XI too. Maybe not the 1st game, but as soon as Mings makes that mistake that's coming...

Though maybe Southgate is finally coming to his senses and we'll hear later today that Dunk has been drafted in to replace Maguire after he failed a fitness test, Ward-Prowse is replacing Henderson after he failed a fitness test and Webster is replacing Mings after he failed a footballer test.

This is huge news for him, but also for the club. We now have proof for our young players that there is a route from Brighton youngster to England international without having to leave to a bigger club (or Leeds) to achieve it, which in turn should help us hang on to more of our youth prospects for longer.

Really happy for Ben, but why do England insist on taking injured, or recovering players to major tournaments? It has never worked, even going back to Spain 82.
Slabhead and Henderson shouldn’t be going,.

Delighted he is going, clearly done himself no harm in training with the squad, and been very solid in the warm-up games.

He'll learn a great deal being in and around the squad and hopefully this is the start of a long England career.

Whilst its great news for Ben and the Albion got to feel a little bit sorry for Lingard and Ward-Prowse, both great impact subs who can change a game.

If your an optimist yes...

If your a pessimist then it means, he’s being played the full 90 minutes because he’s NOT going....

I was right, it seems. Happens occasionally

I didnt watch Romania game. What did Mings play like

Crap. Lots of shouting and pointing. Lacked composure. Arrogant. Accident waiting to happen.

Same old, in other words.

In just one night, he has probably become our most valuable player, surpassing Bissouma.

Delighted for him. Fully deserved.

He could have thrown his toys out of the pram for not being allowed to join his friends at Leeds, but he didn't.

Instead he stuck his head down, worked hard, improved, adapted. Great professional. Reaping the rewards now.

And well done to GP for most likely keeping Ben's focus in the right place

This.

It's one thing being fit enough to start and make it through 90 minutes and quite another to be match fit, in good form and be able to influence games at the sharp end of an international tournament.

Those two will be passengers IMO. There's talk about them being 'good around the group', so that's a reason to take them. Bo||ocks to that - if they are so good around the group, why can't they be added to the coaching staff / squad entourage and instead take a couple of fit & in form players who might actually make a difference on the pitch?!

As the Times pointed out this morning - he was very good at pointing and shouting.

And he missed a penalty he should never have taken.

I was amazed that he joked about the penalty when interviewed. The last time I saw someone behave like that was Fulham 3 seasons ago when Mitrovic and another bell end squabbled over who was going to take a penalty (the bell end missed). If I was Southgate I'd tell him if he pulls a stunt like that again he'll be out of the squad. I know it was 'only' a friendly but While's performance got him across the line and into the squad in that friendly. Imagine if his game had been sabotaged by a team mate pratting about. I liked Henderson up to that point, too :annoyed:
