At some point you have to accept football doesn’t have easy answers. Who’s fault is it we don’t convert more of our many chances isn’t an easy answer.

Some answers are easier, in CH’s case we simply didn’t get enough people in and around the box to create enough chances to miss. The belief in what they were doing and their confidence evaporated - so far that isn’t happened under GP, but it could do of course, just like Liverpool’s has under Klopp.

So exactly what you’ve said really, you do have to try to valuate all the good stuff, and whether the bad is something that can be improved.

It’s pretty clear for many people seeing Brighton take the game to any side is something they want to see. They can also see that the players, week in, week out, through bad spells or good have believed in what the manager is trying to do. Personally I get a sense they love playing the way we play, that they’re trusted and valued on and with the ball.

Will it bring us a season like West Ham are enjoying, finishing just above the relegation places last season, to CL places the next? I don’t know. Moyes isn’t a genius, he’s a good manager, but ultimately something just clicked for the players. As said at the start of this post, sometimes football just doesn’t have easy answers.

100%

I really don't think we're that far apart (now). It's exactly because football doesn't have easy answers that "Poter In/Out" polls (started by both 'sides') are not helpful, nor statements like "Potter is great but it's these players" which is paraphrasing a post that Mustafa got all upset about me bouncing, In reality it's a huge operation with lots of moving parts in the week and then 90 minutes where anything can and does happen on the pitch.

I'll happily admit to voting "out" mid season and being quite vocal about it because I (wrongly) thought the players weren't really playing for him and that the style wasn't getting results. In hindsight you're right here - I think the players do really enjoy Potterball. I've softentend as I've seen that play out (or, as Icy would have it, changed my mind more often than a whore's draws  ).

Looking back the turning point was probably the early goal in the second half against Wolves. Had we lost that game 3-0 I think the slippery slope would have been unavoidable. But the players dug in and got the coach out of jail, and it was the much maligned Maupay who led the charge,

Yes - I've reflected on that game, too. Luckily at the time I'd had a few drinks, which deadened the pain of the first half capitulation, but I was basically of the mindset that we were going down. It came on the back of that ridiculous match v Arsenal where we didn't play any strikers, and after we'd also chucked away a winning position at West Ham, and almost conspired to lose to 10-man Sheff United!

Of course we're not safe yet, but interesting to see that (including that game) we have 20 points from the last 15 matches.

Isn't what makes football such a great sport exactly that? The best team doesn't always win, the world beater one season is useless the next? The team that's great on paper is shit on grass? Nothing is certain in football, we could still go down this season? But to my poorly educated eye we are making progress. Finding a way to convert progress into goals and results is the next bit of the puzzle and a tough part but even if we do that we'll start to lose players to richer clubs and the whole thing begins again..

I just admire TB for taking a step back and trying to change the equation by investing in infrastructure and youth rather than the traditional route of buying the available flavour of the month and hoping they fit into the team and improve it. It may not work, in fact you can be certain at some point that it won't, but the old way was certain to fail as we will always be outbid in the market for the best talent.

Without CH input none of this would've been possible and that should always be recognised and acknowledged.

Almost certainly. I was thinking about this earlier.

My prediction, reluctantly, is that it will be Spurs.

Mourinho sacked after a very poor season. Spurs want to go for something completely different - a young, promising, English and attack minded manager that doesn't command a massive contract.

The question would be - would GP abandon his project here, which comes with the complete backing of the board and fans, in order to risk his reputation at the likes of Spurs?

The answer to that is, yes, he probably would.

Nonsense. Potter would need to get us in top 10 for a Big 6 club to show interest

also, would these players have signed for hughts?

Maybe, maybe not.

Lallana is a very Potter signing and I think CH would have stuck with Duffy. But Lamptey is young and was looking for first team football, while we were really struggling at RB with a choice of Montoya or Schelotto.

Very well put.

Unfortunately you won't ever change the minds of the instant gratification contingent, or weirdos who keep going on and on and on and on about buying a striker long after the transfer window has slammed shut

Potter needs a decent striker to complete his plan

My guess is Lamps and Lala (for example) would never have signed for Hoots.

Other than Bissouma I'd say our best players have been Veltman,Gross and March. Who are the Potter signings other than Veltman that are in the running?

Lamptey was and would almost certainly have still been. Trossard has had his moments too

Lallana is putting himself in the frame too

Can we let go of CH, gone and managing another club now. An Albion legend but no longer of any influence. Why is it so hard for some to get behind Potter? Once again I say that you are picking on the wrong man, have a moan at TB

I was responding to someone else's point. It seems to be the more pro Potter, little regard for Hughton people that keep bringing him up

Really? I wonder who suggested that our best players were bought by CH? I was responding to that. I have lots of regard for CH but he was past his sell by date as an Albion manager when he was sacked...imo

I was responding to someone who suggested our current players wouldn't have signed for Hughton. I don't really get your point. If you want people to stop bringing up Hughton don't tell people to stop while carrying on the discussion.

I have no problem with people bringing up CH, why not? He gave us some of our best ever times. Those two Championship seasons and our first year in the PL are my best memories of Albion achievements, topping Mullery and Poyet imo. I just don’t get why liking GP is in some way disrespectful to CH. It’s not a competition, I like both of them and follow how Forest are doing under him.

I think TB got it spot on with sacking CH and employing GP though
