Greatest ever rock and roll vocal performance?

I will kick off with John Lennon’s version of Twist and Shout, apparently recorded with a heavy cold and at the end of a long studio session, even after over half a century later it’s still a classic performance.

Great call (and never a big fan of Robert Plant). And just this once, I'm actually going to agree with [MENTION=17322]Lenny Rider[/MENTION] that the John Lennon vocal on Twist and Shout was a monster

The one from the modern day, (and comparing old singers with new, is a bit like comparing old footballers with new, it's best not to try) that always stands out for me is Matt Bellamy from Muse. No particular song in mind, just his vocal range always stands out from the crowd in my mind.

Yep - anything by Roger Daltrey; arguably the top rock singer of all.

Rod is definitely up there, his early stuff before he became a Faces pop star especially. The less said about the later stuff the better imo
