I am an expert and that's not how masking tape works! Just use a decent brush that's not overloaded and drag cleanly.

Cut the wall to the reveal if needed . Forget the extra coat. You need to get some brush on the wall.

Masking tape can damage the painted wall, I use a small brush that has a tapered end for cutting in.
I always say you can judge a tradesman's skills in a minute - ask a spark to change a socket, a plumber to change a tap and a decorator to cut in a from floor to ceiling. Masking tape is for protecting the edge of carpets and wrapping round unscrewed sockets. Paint just bleeds under it anyway.

I want wooden flooring in our L-shaped lounge this year. Dark oak-type floorboards, or a hard-wearing wood effect. I'm definitely in the market.

My dread is moving everything out - especially the TV and all the shit and wires behind it.

I use the Frog tape in bathrooms, use it on tiles when drilling, mask areas to stop dust going into the bath etc, this stuff is supposed to be ok on painted walls, it definitely isn’t, it pulls paint off.

That's easy for you to say as you're an expert! :) I put Brighton stripes on one of my sons walls and without masking tape, all the pencil lines and decent brushes in the world wouldn't have kept the lines straight. I wasn't too impressed that the next day they revealed the new kit! I think masking tape would help him/her judging that cutting in. ???

You can just shove it all to one side and move the flooring and furniture around each other. Often people leave wardrobes to fart arse around!

I have to say I'm horrified by the price people have paid on here. My mates rates is £120 cash a day for painting, papering, tiling, making cupboards, fitting units, hanging doors, flooring etc. But I don't drive and can't be bothered to leave Walthamstow for work. I used to decorate for £20 a day when I lived in Brighton 20 years ago. I should have stayed and milked NSC members for a large fortune.

In the case of that fireplace colour against the white wall, assuming the white wall was completely dry (we're talking diy, not day rates), wouldn't it have been easier to stick some masking tape on the white wall and touch any peelings from that off after?

I would have a lot of mates if I was charging £120 a day for plumbing. :)

Maybe, I just found it easier buying a set of tapered brushes from Toolstation for £3.78 and using a steady hand.

Brilliant NSC , some bloke asks about a bit of flooring and it ends up burning another bloke at the stake after being flogged tarred and feathered for a wobbly line of paint

Gotta get an old carpet up first as well chap. I'm going to be taking pictures of wire setups before I take that spaghetti apart.

Ugh.

God, your cheap Comrade Sam, is it because your a communist ? Or do you start at 9.30, break at 10.30, lunch 12-1.30, afternoon nap at 2pm and home at 4 ?
:lolol:

When I was working in Hampstead Garden Suburbs area 12years ago I was charging £20sqm and could fit between 20-35sqm a day of Amtico dependent on area, and layout design, halls and parquet effect etc take longer and you can charge more.

Yes I've definitely done a bit of swearing with it!

We went for Kardean flooring it's virtually bullet proof been down ten years looks as good as the day it was installed, a quick mop over its water proof, draft proof, kid and dog proof, genuinely the best floor covering I have ever had

Always put in 8 hours, but don't need to earn more than that - the joys of being mortgage free. And since I stopped canning it all day when working my productivity has shot up! I also rarely have to work further than 500 yards from my home.
