Always amuses me that opposition still fall for it! It's his only trick, he uses it all the time, and it's hardly as slick and as well disguised as the original.

They seemed surprised that it was an entertaining game. Even making a joke that the viewers won't be expecting that. All tongue in cheek and I wasn't offended.

That was more to do with the borefest that they had on last week featuring a certain team from up the road.

The Sky commentary in our recent fixtures has been so poor, generally the analysis of experts such as Alan Smith has been ill thought or bias.

What a refreshing change the BBC commentary pair are today. A lot more research and a lot less bias.

I was thinking exactly the same.

A refreshing change. For the first time in a while felt like a more neutral, balanced, commentary. And not hearing the droning Alan Smith is a bonus.

Steve Sidwell and Matthew Upson have both been excellent commentators of some recent matches.
I can't think which games, I think Sidwell was on BTSport.

Why do we always have to have two persons commentating during the match? Wasn't it so much better in the old days with a commentator who spoke only when needed. Have two and they keep talking rubbish just to justify their jobs.

His pace is deceptive, he’s slower than he looks.

Danny Murphy is different class compared to Smith and Mcmanaman. Really like him, does his research and is always fair.

Its actually quite simple. BBC commentate on live sport. All the others have a discussion about anything apart from the match being played (haircuts, favourite food, why Liverpool are hard done by with injuries, and any other bull crap they can think of). BBC don't just have an inane discussion and occasionally shout the name of the player who kicked the ball 10 seconds previously.

Its almost like the BBC train their commentators on how to guide the viewer/listeners through the action, without patronising them, and relying on ludicrous meaningless stats to fill in the time . (Brighton have never won a premier league game on a Tuesday with a 7.30 start when the wind is in the east kind of thing

Having the BBC show live matches has really shown up how bad Sky and BT commentary and coverage really is.

Couldn't believe Smith when we played Leicester, kept on about Leicester's injuries and we hadn't suffered. What about 3 of our starting back 5 March, Lamptey and Webster. But then what do you expect for an old Leicester player..

Can't stand Sky. Hardly in a position to throw stones here but how no-one has told Alan Smith how much his voice grates...and Tyler is constantly looking for a soundbite a la "and it's live". Adds **** all. But most national commentators in this country are like that. Bundesliga/La Liga coverage could teach them a lot.

Keep meaning to play the radio comms over it, which is the total opposite and class. Less is more. JC and Aspinall are great, once you've got over Aspinall never being able to pronounce anything.

This household has had virtual run-ins with Alan Smith on two occasions recently with his midlands bias, obviously when we were playing Villa, but also when Saints were playing someone in the Midlands. He is appalling.

There was a game last year when they asked Evra about us and he just mumbled something and then, after trailing off, murmured that he'd forgotten what he was talking about. They just laughed.

I kind of get why it doesn't matter to execs because the proportion of people watching who aren't Man United fans, let alone top-four supporters, is almost negligible.

On the other hand, there are a lot of researchers/reporters/pundits who will spend all week preparing for a game - including plenty who'd like to be in Evra's position - so it jars a bit that he can't be arsed to read a preview and watch highlights of our season, say. No idea whether Redknapp actually watches us but at least he's done enough to be able to produce a sentence or two about us playing nice football while being flawed and all that...
