I love a negotiation, so hope to bag good value.

I can't just pluck out players from thin air with no idea of budgets.

I have heard a lad called Warren, would be keen he will play for a pie and shandy goal bonus.

Any good???

It wasnt just Lacazettes quality though that was the difference, It was that Burn was skinned and couldnt keep up, then the defence were a shambles and gave Lacazette all the time in the world without marking him.

Murray was a loan from the league above was he not ?

You can have the other 3 though... but still not convincing in over 10 years.

Without factoring in the fact to buy players you need a club to sell, and why would a club sell their better / best players mid season?

Likewise I don’t think we would sell White, Lamptey, or Bissouma in a January window

@El Pres still maintains that we have a bottom 6 budget, as you correctly mention.

TB is banking on GP being an alchemist, making from a bottom 6 budget, a mid-table or top 10 club. It’s partly worked in that Lamptey, Bissouma and March have improved so much already, even the harshest of GP critics must accept that.

But the bottom line in the unforgiving EPL is that money always talks in the end. If TB wants us to no longer be a relegation candidate, it looks like he’s going to have to invest in players of quality.

I agree with this broadly, but it's not just money, it's also spending it wisely (I think Bloom has been a bit too 'wise' on that front), and also having a great structure (I think Bloom has done wonders here).
RE Potter as alchemist, he obviously isn't, but what he has done is to bring players through from the DS. This is one of the ways that Bloom wants to cheat/beat the brutal financial logic of the PL, and Potter has done brilliantly on that front, irrespective of what you think of his tactics, selections, demeanour, etc
The bit I (probably) disagree with is that I suspect that Bloom expects us to be a relegation candidate, I do, and am surprised you are talking as though we can escape it (although -- as ever with NSC -- perhaps I've misinterpreted your nuance).

There was talk on this thread about Giroud. I still think we should bust a gut to get him. He wants to play in the Euros (if they happen), he's not getting much game time at Chelsea. He'd get plenty with us. He'd get goals too. It'd cost a fortune in wages for the next six months, but it's the easiest way out of our predicament.
That's unless Bloom wants to really gamble and bank on the season being closed down by CV19 (which looks highly likely at present).

Giroud - love him. We can never understand why Fat Frank plays TA ahead of him.

I think along the lines of the loanee market too.

All guesswork by us, but I think TB would be surprised but not shocked that we are 4th bottom and cannot buy a win. No doubt a positive person/businessman, the Board would’ve been pleased with the debut season under the DA/GP combo. Not just the final points tally, but style of play and xG etc. metrics.

The bottom line is that appear to be only, maximum 5 or 6 relegation candidates this season, unlike the very long list after 16 games last season. 2016/17 had three clubs stinking the PL out. Clubs such as West Ham and Villa have spent their way away from danger.

There’s possibly a 50:50 chance we’ll drop, without a striker tucking chances away, a defensive system that stops some of these avoidable goals.

A penny for TB’s thoughts and plans tonight!

The logic why things are not a surprise is that we spent a cumulative figure (£200m +) to finish 6th from bottom in 19/20 and peanuts ahead of 20/21 while some rivals spent a fortune (villa finished 4th from bottom 19/20). It was always going to be a relegation battle.

I know.... who could have predicted that the 30 goal striker / chance creator Ollie Watkins would be good?!!! Villa got him for less than any 2 of: Locadia / Aj / Izweirdo / Trossard

Agree on Posh. And Ivan Toney going from Posh to Brentford just encapsulates this

People talk about Moneyball, the thing is we’re not a Moneyball team yet, for that to happen we actually need to buy low and sell high. We haven’t sold anyone yet.
As tough as it will be we actually need to sell a Lamptey or Bissouma for serious profit. The concern is for me is how that profit then gets reinvested given our appalling recent record in signing strikers.

Recruitment is not the problem. The players are very good, the manager is not using them in an efficient or successful manner. He needs to change.

Recruitment has just also been mentioned on Amazon as our failing.

Whether or not Potter is sacked, we have some substandard players in and around our first team, not good enough in their roles by a long way. The club took the punt and it’s failing - 3.5 years on a knife edge battling relegation.

They need to act in early January.

Very well said. At least 2 of our starting line up tonight have no place in a PL team. Both begin with a B. Several others are squad at best, and even then you could have a blazing row as to whether or not they even warrant that.

Brighton’s ‘bargain bin’ experiment has failed. Even the fur coat’s fake, never mind the lack of knickers.

It is a worry. I’d hazard also though that never mind worrying over whether we buy the right striker, there’s every chance we won’t even play him if we did! Some bizarre team selections and tonight wasn’t the first time we’ve taken the field with no recognised strikers starting yet several, including leading scorers are sat on the bench. Like Arsenal are akin to Newport County and we only need to bring them on late in the second half if we get into trouble!

We have paid some massive transfer fees for players the last 3/4 seasons and the majority don’t play, who the hell has got us to spend all that on garbage that are not good enough to play at this level.
