Well, I wouldnt be surprised with 7 changes this year as well. Its quite probably not going to be the strongest team, just a strong one. But all the Baloguns and Bongs and whatever are gone now, Potter could easily rest 11 players and still field a very strong side that should crush Newport seven days a week.

That really sounds like a Man U or Liverpool fan discussing an up coming game against.... Brighton:smile:

In other words a better team than we had starting 3 years ago, shows how far we have come on

We played Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup last season.

From their fans chat site

"Home to Brighton. 11 Jan. No disrespect, but, of all the Premiership teams, they are the least glamorous."

:lolol:

So what do we expect? Must be by some distance the team in PL that has played in top tier fewest number of seasons (8). We do rather expect others to keep up but they don't and why should they, so what's the deal?

Should be a competitive game, I guess we’ll go with squad players plus a couple of the U23’s filling the gaps. You’d hope we’d win, but County shouldn’t be underestimated, they’re a good team.

In our 119 year history we've spent two thirds of it outside the top two divisions and have spent eight seasons in the top flight of English football. We've been to the cup final and lost. Apart from the spectacular hiring of Brian Clough (46 years ago) we are and continue to be, in the eyes of most football supporters and general pundits, an under the radar club.

Although I agree, there’s a lot more to it than that. We’ve won the Charity Shield for a start and have had very good crowds in the lower leagues. We’ve spent 26 seasons in the top 2 divisions since 1975, as opposed to 20 seasons in the bottom 2. So, generation wise, we don’t look as bad as the ‘2 thirds outside the top 2 divisions’ you mentioned. That seems more relevant to me than what happened in the 70 years previous.

Just need a bit of perspective.

When we were in the bottom tier about 20 years ago, I would’ve been thrilled if we had a Derby County, Ipswich Town or Middlesbrough (who were in the top division at the time) away.

****ing football fans today, eh? And this coming from a club who would’ve been considered tiny compared to us, even when we were in the bottom tier.

Well, we don’t don’t play rugby for a start.

Thank goodness they haven't still got that young centre half - White, I think he was called. Wonder what happened to him...........?

He had a wonderful season at Leeds and then disappeared in to oblivion.:albion2:

Yes, I’m old (better than the alternative) cantkerous (I prefer feisty) utterly rose tinted (not so much) but I don’t use sill hyperbole like saying ‘all and sundry’.
We are in the PL because we deserve to be.

Who said don't? But we still stank the place out for long periods even if your rose tints prevented you from hearing or reading what many others said and wrote at the time.

I'm not sure you interpreted that correctly.

Beating Arsenal 3 times
Beating Manchester United 2 times
Beating Tottenham Hotspur once
Drawing with champions Liverpool once
Only losing 2 away games since January doesn’t scream ’stinking out the Premier League’ to me.

The only time we have was at the end of Hughton’s reign.

What do you consider ‘not stinking out the Premier League?’ Finishing top 10 every season?

Indeed. It was only Hughton's last half season that could be described in stink bomb terms.

And I didn’t even mention the draws with Tottenham and Chelsea either! We’ve had some massive results and have been so close to quite a few more too. There’s no way anyone could expect anymore from what we’ve done so far, frankly, we’ve been spoilt.

Why the **** are you (@BeHereNow) picking such a fight with me posting a comment from another clubs fan website? I thought it was funny and I can understand why. You then tear into me for being sympathetic towards an opposing fan thinking that way. FFS. Really? Talk about wanting a row. Honestly, can't be bothered with your insecurity if that's enough for you to get a head of steam up over. I would say chill normally, but actually, just **** off. Go pick a fight at Rodney Parade with the NC fan instead.

Of course you're right. The thing that grates my gears is the lazy-stereotypical view of what the club is. Only the very best journalists and pundits dig to uncover the foundations of a successful club. And one of the big reasons for that is that there is no heritage (apart from a charity shield win) during those 70 odd years where we were a lower-division club on one of the southern-most points of England. Huddersfield, Burnley, Wolves, Pompey, Villa, Blackburn, Sunderland, Massive, Everton all first division winners and plenty of those were FA Cup winners too - including Bolton, Blackpool etc. It's going to take years of inhabiting the top division and a recognised trophy win to elevate this club into national football consciousness. You never know, the stars might align and we'll do a Leicester. Then we'd dine at the top table for the next 25 years.
