I wish he'd stop being so open and communicating through these forums (fora?). Now we'll have another month of threads and posts from fans who didn't bother to listen, expressing viewpoints and frustrations on matters that he answered on the forum. The ones who listened will try and helpfully answer with the club's rationale, and the ones who just complain about everything on NSC will use their lack of information and just carry on complaining and ask the same questions over and over again claiming 'I didn't listen to the Q & A and haven't bothered reading the rest of the thread for answers but...'.

All source material for this post has been taken from the Season Ticket Ballot forum and all rights remain with NSC.

I think we need a definitive answer here: is it 'forums' or 'fora'?

will be lots of chat about how hard up we are , a number of politician answers , lots of references to customers and corporate speak.

Then he will get bum licked on here.

Disappointed that fans are still not allowed back into grounds, working with Government to restart but with infection rates and hospitalization increasing difficult to put a date on when thi swill be possible.
Club position on held ST funds given delay in getting fans back.
PPV we are right but with hindsight better communication could have assisted but some fans let themselves down
Project Big Picture unable to comment as under discussion with all PL members but we all want healthy competition and to maintain position as most competitive and watchable league in the world.
Exciting Polish signings but development better to continue in Poland for this season. No issues on joining next season.
Not expecting any domestic signings under deadline extension.

I expect this to be 100% accurate- I may not even watch-this has nailed it!

This Q&A is going ahead because he slipped up & accused BHA fans of wanted things for free. He will now try to justify his choice of words instead of just simply apologising.

He is so right though. This paragraph from his piece on the website sums up football fans...

"Somewhat ironically given today’s mailbag, I was receiving messages and reading many comments from fans suggesting we should have been doing even more transfer business at the start of this week, and then by the end of the week, it has come full circle with some fans criticising us for the cost of the business we have done. In some cases I have received emails from the same fans on both subjects! Our job is to get the balance right and I think at Brighton we did just that."

To be fair to Barber, he is a superb executive and runs our club very well. I have had a few discussions with him via email and phone once and he gets his point over very well. His only issues are, he is never wrong and will not go back on his initial view, plus he uses phases that we fans do not like, EG 'Customers' and 'Product'.He sees Brighton as a commercial business, which it is, but us fans see it as a community football club first. The term 'Together' is used mainly for the benefit of the club and sometimes that really is lacking between us and them. Would I get rid of him, no way, he is bloody good, but think sometimes he needs to look at things from a fans point of view.

Except they'd planned and scheduled it before that.
re: the "for free" comment. One thing we've not seen is the email that provoked that response.

PS: some fans clearly do want things for free - see how NSC and Twitter and elsewhere are/were used to share links/tips to access illegal or semi legal, free , non UK streams for example.

And it's going ahead because a big criticism was the way fans were told by the media rather than consulted by the club. We know how the club like to put their slant on everything first these days for brand image purposes.

So this is another tick in the box, essentially.

Still, it will prompt a lot of comments on here about how lucky we are to have him and give the club some positive PR after a rough week.

FWIW I do think he's largely very good at his job, but has clearly ballsed this one up, let his guard down by talking to fans as if they are freeloaders, and is trying to repair some of the damage with this wholly unnecessary event.

Had they scheduled it before that? Funny how the first anyone heard of it was when Barbs started dealing with the shit storm.

Just because people access illegal streams doesn't mean people only want stuff for free. As has been said many times before, Spotify killed mainstream music piracy (remember Napster, Limewire, Bittorrent etc) by making music affordable to the masses.

Maybe they should help prevent that by getting a better deal for fans ? Rather than offering a deal many times more expensive than anywhere else in the world. It’s way above market rate, also made no consideration for the lifeblood fans of clubs - I.e season ticket holders who obviously can’t go

Agree with that.

He's an excellent CEO/Deputy Chairman and we are lucky to have him.

BUT - he's used some unfortunate language on this occasion - Football Fans always want something for nothing / Customers /Product etc...

Personally I don't have a problem with PPV but IMO STHs should have been reimbursed first - before charging ' a second time'

NSC Is still full of those offering advice on how to get access to Non UK streams for free (buy this stick or that, subscribe to this VPN) - many even in the same threads outraged about PPV - have said "i'll stick with streams thanks very much".
Perhaps it is a crusade similar to music and the early 00s but it feels a lot like to me - i can't, won't , afford to subscribe to legitimate tv offerings so why shouldn't i use these instead. Fair enough - and the cost of legal football subscriptions is prohibitive - but there's plenty who just see it as an opportunity to access stuff for free.

It feels more to me a case of "i won't subscribe to an over priced products".

There will always be a minority element wanting to beat the system, but i think it's fair to say the overwhelming majority just want something affordable.

If BHA v West Brom was a fiver there would be a lot less complaining going on.

Agreed to all of that - the £14.95 figure is prohibitive in my view. But the demand for free streams and using NSC and other spaces to share links to them (not on NSC anymore but it was prevalent at one point) didn't start a few days ago.
