Same as Maupay's yesterday. Maupay was facing away from the header from Maguire. Totally ridiculous rules. It's not the refs fault but the rules.

Football has finally EATEN itself.

Absolutely farcical.

The same number of penalties this season for handball as the whole of last season. And we're only 3 weeks in.

Even with my darkest blue and white striped glasses on, I cannot disagree with the penalty against Maupay

But they can't change the rules now can they? Otherwise, Spurs (and us) and others could appeal.

Hopefully Potter is now training our players just to get shots off against defenders’ torsos

Whoever changed the handball rule to the absolute joke that we now have must be very proud that they have destroyed the game.

IMO, the handball rule was designed to top player deliberately getting an advantage by use of the arm. If the ball is struck from close range at the arm/hand, then that should not be a penalty. If a players slides in to do a block but raises their arms out sideways/above head to make themselves a bigger barrier, then that’s different. But these decisions are now ludicrous. Dier had his back and was jumping - you can’t jump very will with your arms by your sides.

This is now absolutely pathetic. Too many r*tards making the rules in football now.

Well that decision makes the previous 90 minutes a complete waste of time.

I was so angry yesterday - quite ridiculous really (as its just a game) but I'm really struggling to let it go... I was just starting to mellow, and then one of our rivals gets a point from nowhere whilst we were utterly robbed of one yesterday.

Travesty is the only word that comes close.

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh etc.

You don’t think Maupay’s handball was a penalty? It was nailed on 100% the correct decision imo, no grey area at all

Have we had a ref that goes to the monitor and goes against the VAR ref?

Not to my knowledge. Which makes it more of a farce. Yesterday Kavanagh should have just said to Hoops "you have the refereeing ability of a blind slug, I'm not listening to a word you say, that's a penalty" but we all know once they go to the monitor they have to support their mate. Nonsense.

Nothing like Maupay's yesterday, he was facing the ball for a start, when it hits his hand he's look straight at it.

Maupay jumped with his arm raised in front of him, that's always been a penalty. The penalties against Palace yesterday and this one against Spurs are ridiculous.

Dribble in to box and just chip the ball in to the nearest defender .nice job, we will have lots of games ending 7- 6

Tactically now if you are in the box and can't get a shot away at goal then I can see players being encouraged to blast it at the nearest defender in the hope of getting a pen.

What was wrong with the rules as they were in the past with handball? The ref had the discretion to award a penalty if deemed deliberate or preventing a goal. Why did it need to change?

Some changes in sport improve the game - this one does not.

Oh yes it was a pen, BUT the whistle had gone... I don't think you should be able to retrospectively review the match... Why don't we review that cup game at West Brom, and give Andone the red he deserved? Why not re-review the second pen yesterday? you know all comfortable like, after the ref has had a cuppa and decided he missed something a week last Wednesday... FFS.

The coupling of VAR with incompetents and ridiculous rules, whilst setting frankly ludicrous presidents WILL ruin our once beautiful game once and for all.

Don’t think for a moment that I am not seething as much as you about all sorts of Manchester biased Manchester born ref decisions, and the corner should not even have been taken but Maupay’s arm up was a nailed on penalty every day of the week and twice on Sundays. That’s all I’m saying

They have changed the rules because of VAR - Tis was always going to happen.

Having had it now a few years. Sepp Blatter was right in one thing - his opposition to it.

No problem with goal line tech, it doesnt impact anything - but so much of the VAR now is totally anal and splitting hairs for half a centimetre. Games are decided not by players or even the ref, but by the hidden official with his TV sets.

change the handball rule to what it was forever (until tinkered with), if its not deliberate, its not handball, a minor graze on the arm for player trying to play it or not doing so deliberately, is not the same as diving to stop a goal with hands.

VAR is ruining the game 100%.

common sense by Clinton Morrison on BBC

"It just frustrates me. At the end of the game I want to talk about football. Instead we are talking about VAR and the handball rule. I would take the handball rule away from the VAR officials. I like it that the referee goes to the monitor because the players will respect it more. I don't blame the referee, I blame VAR. That is the problem."
