Thuram and Plea were on the bench for Gladbach on Saturday. Could be a fitness reason, but if either of them are available they’d definitely strengthen the squad. Probably a pipe dream considering they qualified for the champions league and both had strong seasons, but one can dream.

Also Borja Mayoral at Real Madrid is in the last year of his contract and reportedly available for €15 mil. He’s got a pretty good goal scoring record, in La Liga and Spain U21’s

Connolly is capable, especially with late goals, when we’ve worn lower opposition teams ragged with pace.

He didn't look too threatening until his very well taken goal, but his energy, running the channels and pressing was brilliant yesterday.

12 would be great and more than achievable for Maupay, its getting Connelly or other 2nd Striker upto say 8/10 that will really help us.

This is what I have been saying.
Maupay will be fine and chugg along to double figures.
Some are expecting 15/20 goals this term but they are stupid-poopid and greedy.

The main focus must be on Maupay's supporting cast.
Two of them have to get close to double figures for the squad to edge closer to Mr Bloom's stated aim.

If that happens the rising tide effect will float all other boats as 'bonus' goals will be created playing from a position of strength instead of just hanging on.

Do you want another run at that?

Didn't look too threatening but ran them ragged.

Until late last night I had to make do with BBC live text.

Clinton Morrison was in awe of the front 3 saying how they were virtually unplayable.
Eventually I saw he wasn't wrong.

Newcastle were chasing shadows.

Not at all, you're splitting hairs.

I said the same thing. He ran them ragged, full of energy, didn't give their defenders a second on the ball...... He didn't threaten scoring (himself) until his excellent goal, but his overall teamwork was first class.

Sorry you mean 'didn't look threatening in front of goal', but his overall play was excellent.

I guess it would be churlish and rather splitting hairs to point out he earlier hit the post.

As said at the very end of the match thread, between goals 1 & 2 our triple threat each closed down a Newcastle defender chasing the ball, as they tried to keep possession.
Net result Newcastle hoofing the ball out of play.

I'm not too bothered about Connolly's goal scoring threat, that'll come naturally if Maupay does his job, which he'll find considerably easier if the other 2 do there's.

I think we are going to get Origi and this is why...

Still has a point to prove in terms of making a 1st XI spot his own, but has experience at the highest level (goals in the semi & final of the champions league FFS!)
Good age - not a real young pup (we already have Connolly & Gyökeres in the v young & still developing bracket), but young enough to have re-sale value.
Quick, strong and technically sound - should fit into how we play very well
Liverpool have signed Jota, so already have another option for their front 3
Dale moving on will free up wages
The Lallana link will help grease the wheels & settle him in
The Belgium link with Trossard will help too
There seems to be a general love-in from the Liverpool coaching staff about how we play & coach
Great performances from the likes of Lamptey, Alzate, White, Biss (well, pretty much everyone) make us a particularly attractive destination right now.

I'd be over the moon if we signed him, though funnily enough after yesterday I'd be more relaxed about not signing anyone if that's what happens*

*but would be worried about what happens if there are injuries to our forwards...

Your context is now correct! He was excellent.

fwiw ye olde post hit was a mile offside and was flagged.

I don't think we're going to get Origi and my here's why is a lot simpler.

We will be outbid on wages.

We'll see.

While wage offered is a very important part of the equation, it certainly isn't the only part.

reports are Origi is only on £45,000 a week which while a lot for the likes of you and me its cheapish when you consider Maupay is said to be on £50,000 a week. How far we would be prepared to push this upwards is obviously debatable and obviously who we are in competition with.

Brighton factually.....
I see talkshite are putting this out there..

"Chelsea and England forward Callum Hudson-Odoi, 19, is pushing for a loan move away from Stamford Bridge"

Probably no better than we already have to be honest, would you go for him ?

From the BBC
We are still in the running.
"Sheffield United head the queue to sign Liverpool's English forward Rhian Brewster, 20, with Aston Villa, Brighton and Crystal Palace also interested"

To be honest, after a few cup games and the thrashing we gave Newcastle, I am less worried than at the start of the season, with Andone coming back we may have enough.

I think Maupay will get to around 15, and Connolly/AN Other perhaps 10
8 from Tross
10-12 from midfield - Biss, Lallana, Alazate, the Alis and the WBs between them
5 from defenders
Mid table finish with those numbers [emoji16]

Striker incoming apparently.

Andi Zeqiri.

Brighton and Hove Albion is planning to send private jet later today in Italy for Andi Zeqiri. Italian media reported that kosovan striker agreed a deal with Parma but nothing is done yet. Graham Potter wants him immediately in the first team.

BUT, If he wants a tax haven, will he have to live in a boat off Brighton Marina ? or maybe a shed perched on the legs at the end of the West pier ?
