Ali J for Lallana

Veltman for White (if White not fit) otherwise on the bench with ArgieMac

Great goal, but he was playing against Portsmouth, not Newcastle.

Indeed. I Still have a suspicion that AJ is a flat track bully.
But He had more about him last night, in his body language as much as anything. I didn’t see that often last season and it can’t all be down to the opposition.

Stick them all in. A clean sheet and four goals against the mighty Pompey – it should be a doddle against the barcodes :moo:

Why's that, I wonder?

Reading some of the threads, I thank the Lord that Potter picks the team, not NSC.

“Football is about consistent performances”
“Well, actually he’s hardly started under Potter...”
“Why is that?”

So it’s not about consistent performances then? Which is it?

I’m going by what you said. Seems like you just want the guy to fail so you’re proved right.

Who, at risk of repeating myself, would you drop from Tross or Maups to accommodate him?

I'd love him to succeed, it means BHA would thrive. I don't think he's PL standard though, so far.

Is there some rule why we can’t accommodate all 3?

So you were BSing about the “consistent performances” critique. I assumed so [emoji6]

I’ve said it enough times, but I’ve never fully believed that Jahanbakhsh has got quite enough talent for the Premier League, however, I do really want to see him succeed and I can’t help thinking about that stat of 4 goals from 32 chances created since football resumed. I simply cannot accept that if Ali had 32 chances at goal he’d score less than 10, the power and technique with which he strikes the ball is superb, if he played the second striker role I think he’d be a success.

Well we don't have anyone else that can hit a ball as sweetly as Ali J, well apart from Trossard who 8.5/10 times will volley it wildly into the stands. So Ali J can't do much more to impress on the manager that he's worth a place on the pitch at some point in the game. If the manager thinks otherwise then maybe time for Ali J to move on to somewhere he could make a difference on a more regular basis. Same as Shane Duffy has just done

From press conf this morning :

"Adam Lallana joins the group today [Friday] for training - that's really positive.

"He's been great since he's been with us. We'll make a decision about that as late as we can to give him the time he needs."

"Ben White is the same, we want to give him the best possible chance of playing this weekend.

"He'll be training today and we'll make a decision on Ben as well."

In terms of picking which player you’d want to be on the end of big chances to score, you’d put him ahead of most of the squad including Groß, Mac Allister, March, Alzate, Pröpper & Stephens.

I agree. The problem is that even with that being the case, Trossard (mainly) and Maupay are ahead of him in the 11 and Trossard is probably our most likely competition for the 2nd striker berth at the moment. I really think that Maupay and Tross will get around 10 each this season if not injured.

I cannot disagree with that. The 3 goals he has scored for us have been technically excellent.

Exactly. The problem is, who would you play him instead of?

Same side at Newcastle as played Chelsea, assuming none out with injuries. Veltman and Mac Argie to come in if our two doubtfuls don't recover.

True.

But I think we should start Ali above anyone else on the right of a front three.

Whether we play a formation in the Premier League with a front three is another matter.
