Veltman in for White if he is injured. Jahanbaksh in for Lallana if he is out, liked him having a freedom to operate centrally at times. Ali Mac and Molumby in the squad, Stephens looked good but I assume he is out

Fact that both Veltman and Burn started tonight suggests that White will be fine for Sunday.

Yeh I wouldn’t start any - won’t be fresh. But I’d be tempted to play that team again if fit next week - could get past Preston if we play like that, and into the last 16 (I think). But one game at a time.

Anyone know if there’s a chance of a stream v Preston assuming it’s not gonna be on tv..?

The carabaocup website will stream it.

I don’t see any of them starting unless due to injuries.

The oblivious ones would be Veltman for white and either MacAllister or AJ for Lallana

Preston is next Wednesday and I see Potter putting a similar side out from tonight against them to see if they can do it consistently.

I'd rather they knew what was going on, tbh

None of them. The 11 that started against Chelsea should start.

I’d agree but with Lallana unlikely to be fit, Ali J or Alex Mac have a chance to start. If White not fit then Veltman starts.

Bit of a tangent but this was an interesting comment in The Guardian’s look ahead to the weekend matches...

“The capacity of football and 2020 to surprise is much fabled, but excited anticipation of a game between Newcastle and Brighton feels like something beyond even those two giants of the unexpected … except here we are. Newcastle were excellent last weekend, and it was clear from those 90 minutes at West Ham that the responsibility to do something worth seeing no longer rests solely on Allan Saint-Maximin. Jeff Hendrick, Ryan Fraser and Jamal Lewis were smart signings who offer varieties of attacking impetus and Callum Wilson is a proven Premier League striker, whose all-round game facilitates their best attributes; a 90-minute tussle with him and Andy Carroll feels about as much fun as … football in 2020. Brighton, meanwhile, played really well in defeat against Chelsea. Tariq Lamptey’s purpose and thrust has been a revelation, while Yves Bissouma is growing into a fine player, brimming with energy and quality. Now Neal Maupay and Leandro Trossard are together up front, it is harder to see from where an opponent’s clean sheet might come. This might just be the most entertaining game of the weekend”

Some recognition of merit outside the top six.

Aj looked like he had the bit between his teeth last night.
Maybe something has changed, or clicked. More urgency.
He definitely deserves to be in the mix for Newcastle.

Did they not watch the last Newcastle game between us?

Great goal, but he was playing against Portsmouth, not Newcastle.

The shot would have beaten most Premier League keepers. However the tw@t defender just stood off Ali allowing him to settle then shoot. That sort of defending is not seen above League One level.

How about his goals against Chelsea and Bournemouth?

You can only beat what’s in front of you and he was the best player on the pitch by far and deservedly MoM.

Football is about consistent performances, an occasional worldie is nice but won't keep us up.

As last evening, we usually play 2 up top, who would you drop to accommodate him? Tross or Maups?

I doubt very much Lallana will be fit so I'd play Mac Allister. Veltman will come in for White if needs be. Ali J on the bench - great to see him enjoying his football, would so like him to succeed.

GP will not risk these 11 for a relatively low key Sunday afternoon match when the next round is next week, got to be targeting silverware this season and hopefully Premier League safety as a bonus. :hilton:
