1) why sell an asset who’s value could potentially double following an England call up?

2) what’s the point of the academy if we don’t even start the lad in our first team in the PL?

You’re looking at £30m in isolation. Yes, our of nowhere that’s great. But you’re not seeing the bigger picture. The Euros are round the corner, if BW develops as expected he could easily be worth twice that if not more.

If we do sell it’s going to have to be a ridiculous bid.

You do realise he didn’t really come through our academy. Saints done most of the work before releasing him at 16.

Where do you get this from? And you think Leeds are a bigger club???
Of course they are a bigger club. He's reportedly turned down two contracts (almost certainly true, if he was wanting to sign you, the way Bloom works he'd have signed by now). He's also being linked with the big boys in the tabloids so has an agent playing the game.

Of course Leeds are a bigger club, it's not even a debate. Doesn't mean they are any good mind you

What price loyalfty?

That cuts both ways and clubs (incuding ours) have no hesitation releasing a player if they deem them surplus to requirements. There is no loyalty in football apart from by the fans to the club itself. Sadly, that's the way it is.

And have a look on here for dozens of threads where us fans are happy to dump a player or replace them with something better (spending Uncle Tony's money) without a second thought if we think it will improve our team.

I’m going to put this out there, and I hate to say it, but yes historically Leeds are a ‘bigger’ club than us. We’ve been out punching them for a while, which does us huge credit, and feels ****ing brilliant... but, should they get their shit together in this division no one will be suggesting we’re bigger and ‘more established’ than them... it’s sad, but true. Until we win, and not fluke, a major trophy ever will it be thus... and even then it’ll take years of similar standing to see us accepted as BIG.

He’s going, I’m sure of it... like I say, good luck to him but if he wants out... sell. Simple.

Of course it’s a debate. Leeds are not a bigger club NOW and I’m shocked to even hear this from an Albion fan.

They will be one of the most likely teams to go down next season, how’s that a bigger club?

And where are you getting your facts that Ben has turned down contracts btw?

Can you answer my question though, why do you think he’s had his head turned? Is that facts, or just in your head?

I’m assuming these bids haven’t both arrived today on the basis of it would show real desperation to up your bid by 20% instantly. Perhaps it’s a leak by either his agent, to leverage contract negotiations, or by BHA to start a bidding war with the big clubs that are supposedly monitoring him.

Bidding wars don't actually exist though do they?

I can’t agree with that. If that was our mentality then Dunk and Stephens would have gone years ago and we might not be where we are today. Defeatist attitude. We are bigger than Leeds now in all areas that matter, apart from delusion of course.

It’s a simple step hypothesis, acoording to sky we’ve offered two new deals... these will not be derisory, yet they have reportedly been turned down. Leeds are bidding, I suspect with his and his agents blessing... he will not be being guaranteed first pick, and quite rightly so... yet at Leeds, he’ll be being promised the world and more.

Thus I propose he has made his decision.

Personally I HATE the idea of keeping a player who doesn’t want to stay.

It’s not his decision to make, he’s contracted to us.

With Sky saying he's turned down 2 contracts from us and that we have (very quickly) turned down two offers from Leeds (latest at £22m) suggests to me that he is, wisely, holding out on a new contract until his "value" has been confirmed. Every time Leeds up the bid, he can and will ask for a little more money from TB. As soon as Leeds back off, he has to jump quickly for the contract on the table at that point (as he wouldn't want to run out his existing contract).

Brinkmanship but already looking like a tactical ploy from him to get the best deal out of staying than genuinely wanting to leave imho.

Fair enough, we might keep him and in terms of his contract... Can... but he’ll be sulking (I suspect), and that’s never good... never.

Well I'm afraid I'm another Brighton supporter who regards Leeds as a much bigger club than ourselves. We are being delusional if we think we can match the worldwide support of Leeds, the passion of their supporters, their rivalry with the likes of Man U, the trophies they have won, the great players who have been household names. We could go on and on. We have done so well to narrow the gap and we are probably the closest we have ever been and possibly likely to be. All this doesn't alter the fact we are in the driving seat in all transfer negotiations with ANY club who wishes to secure his services.
I doubt Ben White will have little to say about who he plays for next season but if Leeds make an offer we cant refuse then we would be silly not to except a huge offer.
Its unlikely Ben White will play for Leeds just because he may prefer to play for them, it's all down to money and Leeds wont compete with the big boys if they wave their chequebook around.
Any scenario it's a win win for us.
