I find the fact that the club have posted an article saying they "regret" Stanley passing incredible.

Being a friend of the Bloom family does not change the fact that Stanley brought Archer into the club. He did nothing to stop the sale of the Goldstone. He lied through his teeth at at those Concorde meetings saying he wanted to save the Albion when in fact he was simply protecting Archer to take his cut.

So what if he put some cash in the 1980s? You could use the same argument about Archer's initial investment before the asset stripping started.

Three men tried to kill the Albion. It's two down, one to go as far as I'm concerned.

Hard one really as the Bloom family were there as well. Think the club has to be diplomatic. When Archer curls his toes there will be a different reaction.

Absolutely agree with that, out of misfortune we got to here, maybe it took those three for us to be where we are... all quite perverse really.

Maybe we'd not have suffered years of Div 2 misery, getting soaked at Withdean, and all the rest if ANYONE else had taken over and managed a far more sensible transition away from the Goldstone. I can't believe it would have taken as long to have reached the Premier League that's for sure when you look at all the other teams our size that managed it well before.

We are where we are with a lovely new ground and a bloody good team so perhaps time to move on from all this vitriol - not all sure what good it is doing?

Without wishing at all to start an argument, you can not tell anyone how they feel about this. Some like yourself will have tempered their views for others it's still raw, and would dance on his grave. Due to what happened both responses are acceptable in my view and I wouldn't go telling anyone how they should react.

Great summary.

As a mark of respect for the dead, I’ll keep my opinion to myself. Suffice it to say that I don’t think Ray Bloom covered himself in glory either

Seriously what were people expecting the club to say in public? They have to be diplomatic and be seen to act professionally.

True, especially as a family member was involved

The crux of it is that someone has lost their life, they are both a parent and a grandparent, so however many Albion fans feel , some people have lost someone very close to them and that’s sad.

That said Greg Stanley typified the old adage that money doesn’t necessarily make you happy.
John Vinicombe once described him as a likeable Buffon who cant be trusted with his own money, but he was more than that, a cross between Fredo from the Godfather and an ASBO Peter Pan.

He only ended up at the Albion because Ken Bates saw him as an embarrassment and for all his money didn’t want him on the board at Stamford Bridge.

He was a bully, I had my final death threat from him only 3 years ago, after The Large One put the Komedia Build a Bonfire night on You Tube, and I certainly wasn’t the first person to receive one, but like all bullies he was extremely insecure and unfortunately with his money that made him fair game for people looking to make serious money with his endorsement ( Foray 585 etc)

I see ‘Red Ivor’ has put on social media that GS was a good man, not for the first time Caplin’s talking rubbish.

Like when Bellotti died, I took no pleasure from the news, GS is a person who could have done so much more with his life, through philanthropy and charity work, yet his actions albeit he was coerced into them , made him a hated person to thousands.

At this time, we should feel sorry for his family for their loss, and actually a pity Stanley for the life he ultimately led.

Thank you for the insight. Classy post and your conclusions would be difficult for anybody to disagree with.

Not say anything. Why even give him the time of day? Was there an article when Bellotti died. Will they do similar when Archer finally pops his clogs?

I don't know why the Bloom's suddenly want us to remember Stanley for what he did prior to the mid 1990s

Yep. Many years ago I was in the Village House at Findon with a work colleague when two friends of my colleague walked in. I didn't know these people, was introduced and and the evening continued. After a few minutes chit chat, They said they had been in a pub at Angmering, (The Lamb?) but had decided to come over to Findon as somebody had come into the pub who was an obnoxious drunk they had encountered previously. My radar picked up when the guy said; (paraphrased) "the guy is loaded and is involved with FADS the DIY company." Naturally, I chimed in with "I know exactly who you are talking about!" The guy wasn't really a football fan and knew nothing of his involvement with the Albion. I filled him in on the gaps.

Again in the mists of time - I 'think' I heard way back when, he was eventually barred from The Lamb at Angmering?
