I'm wondering if people on here wanted palace to lose to Cardiff last season too.

Nope.

I knew that the team didn't have it within them to get out of trouble themselves.
Not the same situation here at all. It is in our hands and we have handled the pressure better than any of the chasing pack.

I literally cannot fathom people wanting Villa to win here. Absolute morons.

Because we’re not doom-mongers who think we are going down

We believe we have a chance of finishing 14th because we believe in the team and staff, unlike you lot.

I agree, but it is an interesting insight into the shortsightedness and tin-pot mentality of some "fans" that they'd let a petty rivalry be more important to them than Albion's PL status.

Makes some of our fans look like a bit myopic.

Don’t think anyone wants Brighton to get relegated, I can’t get excited about Palace winning, but yes of course I want Villa to lose.

However, come the end of the season if you offer me Brighton stay up and above Palace I’d be in dreamland.

That’s still possible, as others have said it’s still in our hands.

Palace are shockingly bad.

I think those who want Villa have a slightly more long-term view of wanting to finish the season above Palace, which I get and is plausible.

If we couldn’t catch them then I doubt there’d be many on here willing Villa on.

Personally I was hoping for a draw.

It’s not just about the rivalry.

Updated this mini tracker and added Palace. Assuming CPFC2010 don't turn this around in the next ~15 mins, then the latest view is as below.

Based on the follow rules, taking current positions in the table.

Always lose to top 5
Lose away, draw at home versus positions 6 through 10
Win at home, draw away versus the bottom 10

Note that where they play each other, I've gone with my view of it

So, if you think BHA can **** it up and lose the remaining three, you also think THREE of the four beneath us can do enough for us to go down? You're giving them too much credit, or not enough to us, whilst also giving their opposition no hope. ???

Thanks for posting.
But I think you have made the mistake of thinking anyone wanting a Villa loss, is interested in reasonable and sensible opinions.

A bit of perspective:

To overtake us, Villa need 2 more wins and 1 draw and hope we get now more points and lose heavily in each. I'd like to see the bookies
odds on that.

:ffsparr:

If it was anyone but Palace would you care if we finished above them? Or would be you supporting whoever played our relegation rivals, knowing that if we collapse horribly in these final games, we will be dependent on their results?

It's all about the rivalry. Don't pretend it isn't. There wouldn't be a thread saying "come on Villa" if it was any other club but Palace. Which is, as I said, a bit tinpot.

Given the choice between being mathematically safe with 2 weeks to go and it going to the last day only to finish 14th, I would take the former every single time.

Well done to everyone who cheered Villa on to win

Grealish is a c**t, VAR gets one right :lolol: :clap2:

Thank you! :D

What a result! Plus a comedy VAR error denying Palace a goal and Benteke gets sent off at the end.

Palace:
LLLLL

This is part of being an Albion fan :albion2:

You make a good point - I often think that I can argue with people on the internet and make them see sense - but it's the sense that they are lacking in the first place, so I'm wasting my time!

Hamilton won, Palace lost, we're eight points clear with three to play, the sun is shining - I'm very happy and off to get some nosebag. :)

Do you honestly think someone typing something on a forum impacts the outcome of this result

Get a grip, it’s Palace being dog shit that’s the problem.

Well, my post was meant in a bit of a jokey way. However I cannot understand anybody cheering on Villa in these circumstances. Demonstrates a fair bit of naivety.

At the beginning of restart, I was confident we would stay up, but felt we would probably need 5 points from our last 3 games.
We need 3. Probably not even that.

Watford and West Ham have made back the lost ground on us.
Villa are worse off.

All good.

Indeed. Whilst it’s possible mathematically for us to go down, the results of West Ham against Watford & Aston Villa would have to balance off perfectly with a loss of form from teams like Everton, Man City & Arsenal. One of the bottom five getting past us is certainly possible, all three though, I think not.

We are six points clear not eight. Maybe the grasp of Maths explains the complacency ?
