United produce by far the largest audience so I sort of get it but surely they could spend an hour researching our last couple of matches to come armed with an interesting point or two. Imagine if Virgo or Alex Scott had done that.

Seems like Potter has a blind spot when it comes to Man United. Either that or he's been out thought twice by OGS, which is a chastening and frankly worrying thought if true.

The only saving grace of the team selection being that not only was it impossible to predict the starting 11, it was impossible to predict how they would line up. It was quite funny reading the posts earlier in the thread trying to guess the formation. Hopefully it was made with one eye on the Norwich game and getting thoroughly outclassed won't have dented confidence at all.

From what you are saying you obviously expect Brighton to beat Manchester United, because if the game is lost - as it was - it is "either being outthought by OGS" or "coach got a blind spot". To me, it seems you are the one with the blind spot - failing to see and understand that Manchester United are a significantly better football team with 25-30 players that would be the first name on a Brighton team sheet 8 days a week, while Brighton got zero players who would take a starting position in United.

The United we saw yesterday, undefeated for 15 straight games, and filled with confidence and skill, would beat Brighton nine times out of ten. Potter's tactical setup wasnt perfect but I seriously doubt it mattered much yesterday - it was just a pure, raw class difference.

Anyone who believes it would have been a win if only i.e. March was chasing his tail in circles instead of Stephens doing it, or Schelotto trying to deal with Rashford rather than Montoya, are just straight up deluded.

Yeah, really, really bad team selection.
Was expecting to get beat last night. United have been very good lately. But I wasn't expecting a team selection that gave us no chance, and such a passive performance.
At least it was a free hit, but we need to bounce back on Saturday or it'll be back to squeeky bum time.

I must say I’m very frustrated by the team selection, I’m not one to critique Potter that much to be honest I like him but what on Earth was he thinking? I just can’t fathom how he thought that team would work.

He is entitled to get it wrong occasionally and he’s still learning. Maybe he expected us to stop United playing and frustrate them? The set up was Hughtonesque but without the grit. Credit to United they looked a very good and well balanced side. Cut us apart from the off with one touch passing.

Third goal was quality but would it be harsh to say Ryan could have done better with the first two?

Hoping United carry that form on against Bournemouth, Villa and West Ham

These matches happen in the Premier League. Several times to other clubs in the past fortnight (Liverpool v Palace?). Nothing to do with our choice of personnel or formation. On another night we might easily have seen some enjoyable attacking play and a goal or two from us.

As an Albion fan, forgive me for skipping an opportunity to slate Graham Potter and/or our players.

To me there was a big difference than the Chelsea game, for whatever reason, last evening we were very flat, over respectful and a seeming confusion as to who was doing what.

See tracking first and second goal. Fernandez was brilliant, but Hazard and William were better, slick 1-2’s, last evening Stephens and Propper gave up tracking in the first two goals.
