Watch the vid or bore off. An American political commentator sums it all up in six minutes for you.

Why won't you answer his question?

Because I'm not asking the American political commentator what he believes is meant by the term 'Defund the Police'.

I'm asking you what you believe to be the meaning of 'Defund the Police'.

I don't think that because that is not what the Americans mean by the term 'Defund the Police'.

We can't have the discussion if we are talking about different things, so once again I ask:-

'what do YOU think Americans mean by the phrase 'Defund the Police'.

Why not just explain ? I googled the answer myself (sorry). It’s covered quite well in this Guardian article;

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/jun/08/trump-republicans-defund-the-police-george-floyd

As seems to be the way at the moment it appears to be an incendiary name for a common sense approach to policing that more closely matches the British model ie making use of health professionals and others rather than treating every incident as one of public order. It will take time and will need to run alongside political reform and retraining. Unfortunately it has already been politicized by Trump and the Republicans so nothing is likely to come of it. Another reason to be grateful for living in the UK rather than America.

That is what I believe is meant by the term.

I think Razzoo believes it to mean 'no money no Police'.

Hence it being rather difficult to have the discussion.

I believe he, being an American and all can put it better than I can. But seeing as you are being arsey, in a nutshell. It is reducing police and diverting money to impoverished communities. Solving the problems at the root. Commendable but idealistic and bound to have many negative consequences. On the contrary the Police need more funds for reform/ education etc.

It's not selling itself to me, too radical, too race centric. I prefer the old school idea of not seeing or highlighting colour over all things. What's the flip of Black Lives matter? The actions of a significant minority of their supporters leaves a lot to be desired. Also the thinly veiled cops bad (especially white) narrative is not constuctive. Ok the Police are far from perfect and need reform and change but some cops are doing an amazing job in
a stressful, difficult and hostile environment. The last thing they need is the populace being told that they are your enemy and fair game because systemic racism. It will not end well.

Clueless.

Gosh why was that so difficult?

I think we could find some agreement.

Judging by what I've seen I'm not sure the police need more money.

They are giving the impression they need less, helicopters, tanks, armed vehicles, body armour, pepper spray etc.

The communities in question need more poverty, mental health and adiction assistance.

Now if only there was somewhere that money could be found.

Wow, its so easy isn't it! We all want to live in that world. Can you imagine the absolute craziness of being a cop on a night shift in one of these inner cities? It's easy to forget that not all the problems in these places stem from the police. Why are the Police heavy handed, twitchy, sometimes totally wrong. No, can't think why. They must all be psychotic sadists who love nothing more than beating and killing. I reckon if you had to do a night in their shoes you wouldn't be saying. Hey guys let's leave the guns and vests and bring a therapist instead. :lolol:

if only Trump had a quarter of his foresight, insight , empathy and common sense....wonder if he would align with any party.....probably wouldn't lower himself.

He regularly donates to the Democrats, and reportedly gave $1m to the Obama reelection campaign, as well as endorsing Hilary and donating against Trump and has supported Bernie Sanders both against Hilary and in the recent Democratic primaries.

Again if I ignore your posturing I agree.

The country is in trouble.
They have an uncanny knack of doubling down on their own stupidity.

This all revolves around guns and drugs both aspects America have failed miserably.

None of that goes away by selling THE POLICE FORCE'S tank and investing in a bus load of social workers.

But the question remains why are the tanks needed in the first place.

When you've got that much money, other things become more important. Running for office a big profile-raising exercise for him. I suspect he was genuinely shocked he actually won.

He is in it for the money, and the immunity from prosecution that allows him to make more money. I understand he hasn't filed a tax return for some time......the presidency buys him a great deal of time. Plus he can have fun dicking around.

There's another side to this, though. I have an annual appointment with a specialised nurse (who also treats 'ordinary' patients) to deal with my COPD. Last time I went I found the nurse, a pleasant hepful and caring (white) woman approaching 50 who's worked all her life in the NHS, in tears. She'd just seen a patient suffering from a heavy cold who'd demanded antibiotics. When it was pointed out to the patient that they wouldn't work and weren't necessary the young black patient accused the nurse of racism in an aggressive and unpleasant way. Apparently she had to be asked to leave the surgery. Nothing could be further from the truth with the nurse or indeed any of the doctors and other nurses there. My own GP is a migrant from India and a practising muslim, as are two of the other five doctors. The rest of the nurses there come from all over.

It works both ways.. And the answer is not, I suggest, causing problems in city centres. Surely its education? And example - black players in, for example, cricket and football, have made enormous strides in gaining acceptance. Remember how Joffra Archer was cheered last year?

That one incident doesn't mean the BLM movement isn't justified. After literally hundreds of years of oppression and suppression because of the colour of their skin I think the BLM movement is fully justified and well overdue.
