Potter has no qualms about changing players, tactics and formations during a match. This will give him an advantage over many managers as the change he can now install can be radical.

Another reason for us staying up and shooting past 40 points with games to spare.

Exactly what I was thinking - Potter has already demonstrated a complete willingness to change personnel and/or formation far more than Chris ever did (ooh, 72 mins and the alarm has gone off - must be time for the like-for-like substitution). This will play into his creative hands even more. Advantage for us IMO.

This has totally changed the nature of Rugby Union when you essentially get a fresh Pack on after an hour, it will clearly be a Good Thing for the Richest Clubs with massive squads so not in favour.

I was thinking exactly the same.

I suspect several clubs will find away to take advantage of this new rule and it will quickly become the way everyone plays and will change the nature of the game to a certain degree.

Yes you have missed this virus thing. Its not "a few weeks", its three months. If you look at the Bundesliga now in each game you see players who get very tired pretty early and you see about double the injury breaks compared to before the virus and many teams are rotating a lot between games.

They are not fitter than ever, quite the reverse. If you are a professional athlete and do no or little training for almost three months, you're not fitter than ever.

Of course I havent missed virus. Still dont understand how players who were at height of fitness 8 weeks ago are now not 100% fit. That is 5/6 weeks of keeping in trim at home and then 4 weeks at training ground. Not expecting a call up but I am after daily walking fitter now.

If you earn a decent years salary every week you should be able to afford a gym at home (we earn normal salaries and have managed to do something in my garage!) . . . If you're a professional athlete, you should stay fit every day . . . . being team/match fit is a different thing

I'd love to see an ariel view of players back gardens right now . . . . really see who's been out practicing.

My guess is GM has been in an oxygen tank and doing that illumined disco dance mat thing to keep himself on side. :lolol:

Gyokeres and Ostigard wil be match fit and used to playing in empty stadia when they return from St Pauli and there will still be 6 games left. As they are both U-23 and simply returning from loan, presumably they will also be an option.

Brighton / Hove actually
They should stop all the time wasting substitutions anyway. It would be much better if no substitutions were allowed in the last 10 mins of the game unless a player is involved in a dangerous tackle and has to come off.

It does take the piss when one team is chasing the game for a draw and substitutions are made tactically in the last few minutes. This would be a welcome change to the rules imho.

Good point.

Their last game is on Sunday 28th June, so they are back for the Man Utd game onwards.

I don't think we'll do badly out of this.

We don't have any stars we have lots of players who are all close to being at the same level ...

So for example a team that was

-------------------Ryan
Montoya Webster Dunk Burn
---------Stephens Propper
--------Ali J Mooy Trossard
--------------Maupay

....could become ....

-------------------Ryan
Montoya Webster Dunk Burn
---------Bissouma Alzate
---Gross MacAllister Trossard
--------------Murray

And the quality hasn't gone down very much.

In fact you'd probably find as many people who'd have started with team 2 as team 1

This is in contrast, to others teams in the bottom half, Palace, Villa, Southampton, who are highly reliant on a small number of key players

Yup, agree with you on this, as I have been doing on the non-footballing threads over the past three months

I've heard he's now fully recovered from his injury. He won't be 'match fit' but, then again, now will anyone. The big question is whether he's still got that pace and rapid change of direction. I fear for him on those fronts, but would be delighted to be proved wrong.

I'm fairly sure they won't be available for us to use, no matter when the German season finishes (their registration will be for St Pauli through the end of the <UEFA 2019-20> season).

That's right. The transfer window is shut and no new players can be registered, or re-registered, until it opens - which won't be until the season has finished.

Probably also being introduced because they are playing at a much warmer time of the year and pretty much 2 games every week. Will likely take its toll.

I'm also fairly sure that if you have put fingers to keyboard on a player matter then you are likely to be correct. It's probably irrelevant as using them would be unlikely anyway, but.......
There was a question mark mooted over whether Ben White would be recalled at 30th June which was firmly quashed by Potter. But he didn't say we couldn't, which suggests if we wanted him back to play as a under age player, we could. It feels like the situation could be similar with the St Pauli boys as at least one said he is looking forward to returning after their final match and presumably their registrations will revert to Albion. But like most posters on NSC, I regard everything you say as fact, so no doubt I'm wrong and just waffling in the wind. Thanks for clarifying.

Heard on the radio earlier that injuries in Bundesliga restart so far are about 3x normal levels. Base fitness is ok but lots of soft-tissue injuries caused by direction changes and rapid acceleration/deceleration, lunging etc.

I think this is a change that will actually slightly benefit the weaker sides. They will be able to press the better side more knowing they can change half the outfield side when they tire.

Maybe, but I see a different advantage. Teams who are, say two+ goals up with 20 mins to go can sub their precious better [star] players to help ensure they are fresh and fit for the next game in 2-3 days time. Will be a nice luxury for the clubs who want to keep their best players as fresh as possible for as long as possible.
