I'm not so bothered either way but here's two arguments in favour

1) The presence of live sports might encourage people to abide by rules to only go out for "essentials"
2) Broadly, you are twice as likely to die if you catch coronavirus in a calendar year than if you don't. An average male aged 25-34 has a one in 1215 chance of dying in a calendar year. So the risk for premier league footballers might be seen as acceptably low

So there we have it. PL (and all levels below) suddenly reduced to the level of Lovely Island or Strictly Come Baking in the general psyche. Emperor's New Clothes, except we're now all wearing our old clothes. STH Waiting List just MELTed away (like we always knew it would, at the first sign of a downturn). Brighton Til I Die my arse. Be quite nice to watch a hype-free humbled hobby again, has to be said. Maybe we could have a whipround for those multimillionaires suddenly fallen on hard times? #prayforgrealish

And... RELAX! :smokin:

The general mood from the daily briefings suggests that social distancing is with us for the foreseeable future but I suspect football back on the telly would put that in the bin.

Nice summer day, first time seeing your team play in months, a lot of people are gonna match with mates.

Sorry but pretty pointless thread. None of this is going to happen. All just delaying tactics until the government step in to end it all. This is the endgame for the EPL in light of the TV monies.

As stated on the other PL thread I am not that sure anyone is bothered about any football behind closed doors

Nope. Complete waste of everyone's time. And that's not even considering the inevitable crowds gathering at anfield or somewhere in Liverpool if it did happen and when they won the league.

What has this (bollocks) got to do with the topic being discussed?!

Sounds as if I`m in minority. Great idea. Same for all teams involved. Hopefully games will be viewable on TV or streams. Bring it on !!

Next season hopefully we`ll be back watching soon...... september is my guess !

Here
As I have said before, I think this whole situation is inappropriate and totally lacking in self-awareness. Further, the league stated earlier in the crisis that upholding the integrity of the competition is paramount...they used this line to argue why the league needed to be completed. They have now seemingly forgotten this with the recent proposal in their increasingly desperate quest to finish the league.

And following up on Beach Hut’s post...I know many people in football and not one is overly bothered about finishing the league.

Me neither but this is about the PL doing everything they can to avoid being hit with a massive penalty cost from pissed off broadcasters with whom they have contracts. That said, it would still be total madness for it to go ahead anytime soon.

The latest desperate measure by the EPL to get its money and obligations to the companies who pay them fulfilled. The political backlash on politicians for sanctioning this would be immense as the general public would be rightly outraged that a small pressure group, EPL, would be able to override public safety. As I said on another thread the resources that would need to be diverted to make this happen in the shape of testing and emergency services to administer would be unacceptable to the vast majority of the general public.
Also what message does it give to those front line emergency services working so hard if they see this going ahead? A real kick in the teeth. Football will be reviled if this goes ahead by the majority of the public.
Stop all this nonsense now and cancel the season.

This is the daftest idea that I have ever heard of

You can't use Neutral Venues

That means teams would need to travel. Hotels would need to open to accommodate them. Hotels would need to be staffed and restaurants in the hotels opened to prepare food. The staff would be coming from their homes travelling on Public Transport and potentially picking up the Virus and passing it on.

The same would apply to any team travelling if they were the away side. If they are going to play the matches then you cut down the risk by 50% if you only have one team travelling. It is a totally idiotic idea to increase the risk by having two sides travelling for every match that is played.

Exactly. We don't want any of that Scouse virus down here!

Edited for you.
But who has the most to lose?
Norwich - 5 home games, all winnable with crowd. Especially Hammers & Albion
Villa - 6 home, 4 top 6.
B'Muff - 6 home, all winnable.
Watford - 5 home, the last being V Norwich which would decide a relegation spot***.
West Ham - 5 home including 2 teams below them***.
Albion - 5 home, none winnable except the crowd would help V Arsenal.

*** West Ham V Watford & Villa along with Watford V Norwich it could be argued need a home advantage.

I've never before heard someone say The London Stadium gives West Ham home advantage.

I'll hazard a guess they are the ones with most to gain from this.

It has all gone a bit flat for me. I can't think of football as I am self isolating and watching on TV is a very poor substitute to live games especially games without any atmosphere. Without the interaction with other fans it sort of is a non event.

Going forward to later this year I am not sure how I am going to progress this as my wife's immune system is screwed and possibly a long way off being normal.

Pubs won’t be re-opening anytime soon. And when they do they certainly won’t be permitted to show sports on big screens.

This.

Pubs, clubs and cinemas will be the last places to open.

Pub chains made it clear this week, that a partial reopening of say 1/3 the maximum number of punters, is a complete non-starter, as they’d lose money.
