And we were also unlucky not to get more from Liverpool, Spurs and Palace away. We’re far from safe but let’s be optimistic....we’re better than Norwich, Villa and Muff ( and a few more besides).

One person disagrees strongly with that last bit - Chris Waddle.

In an interview on 5live at about 5.45 today, he was very clear that we’re no better than the company of Norwich, West Ham and Villa. In fact he said those have something (positive) about them that we lack. We deserve to be in the mix and will be until the end of the season.

He really is totally unimpressed with our football.

And i agree with him. The football is getting worse with every week. No real pattern to our game. We are not a nice side to watch. No idea why that has changed because some of the football in the earlier part of the season was wonderful at times despite some woeful defending.

Should anyone be thinking of giving any credence to the judgement of Chris Waddle, watch this and ask yourself whether that would be sensible:

A string of awful results has dented confidence to play the passing around the back possession based game.

I’m glad Potter has gone pragmatic. Let’s chisel out the needed points.

We were in danger of going down as a possession based team, which had won many plaudits. I’ll take the points over plaudits just now.

If we stay up, Potter/the club will ship out the inadequate, strengthen the glaring weak areas.

On the other hand, Random Guy on Twitter strongly believe that we are better than at least three teams, and made a post about this 6 21 today.

He is very impressed with our football.

Indeed it seems like there is a lot of different opinions.

Ok, wallow in your pessimistic miserablist stuff if you want. I think we’ll be ok.

Made perfectly valid points. You just don’t happen to agree with which is fine. But it is possible to support the Albion and believe we’re not quite good enough for the division we’re currently in and that we’ll finish in the bottom three. Doesn’t make pessimist or miserable or any other barbs you care to throw. We all hope that’s not the case. But come end of season...sadly, I just don’t think we’ve got enough to keep us up. Remember, if you can keep your head and remain calm and positive when all around are losing theirs....then you’ve probably not grasped the reality and seriousness of the situation!

I like to think that we’re better, but the final table will determine that, no argument.

Waddle gave the distinct impression that he’d like to see us drop, as if we’re the anathema of a Pulis type team.

Special mention for Schelotto playing the pantomime villain winding up the home support ... the walk back to the dugout after being substituted was epic

Tend to go with Chris Waddles rather than random twitter guys. And he’s not exactly alone. Half our fan base is saying the same and the other half have always been slow...Still, you’re new round these parts so I wouldn’t expect you to know.

Think you missed my point. You always quote commentators, "experts", "pundits" and "celebs", for no reason. You are not a dumb person and should be more confident in whatever you feel/think/believe.

That no one is broadcasting your opinions dont make them less worth or less knowledgeable than the opinions of some pundit.

I'm not saying that the perspective that we are a relegation team are necessarily wrong, I just say there is no reason letting Chris Waddle or anyone else decide what you believe in.

The fans were excellent , very typically Brightonesque especially the bloke who spent the entire second half with his trousers on back to front , not seen that one before , well played sir , half time must have been fun and fascinating :lolol:

When a tiny minority of posters claim that Lo Celso and Lundstram made perfectly good challenges, I’ll reference the opinion of pros and don’t apologise for that.

Waddle’s miserable statement about us was worth relaying, most would not have heard it, it was unusually damning.

I always make my own views known, much to the displeasure of some eg the defence of Dale Stephens.

I haven’t got a clue whether we’re staying up or going down, so I can’t give you a definitive answer. I’ve been pro Potter all the way through, you’ll struggle to find me slagging him off.

Respectfully, allow me to post in anyway I wish.

Of course, I wouldnt (and certainly couldnt) want to stop you.

I'm just very anti against the concept of worshipping celebrities and their opinions, and I might have a bit of an issue shutting up about it..

Ok, let me explain Swansey. The thing with opinions is this. Everyone can have one. But it doesn’t mean they’re worth listening to. For that, you need credibility. Chris Waddle has credibility. He’s an experienced pundit, played at the highest level, followed football for over 50 years etc. By comparison, well, you don’t. Not yet. But keep posting and if you change your preference in birds that would help too. All this we, us and our seems phoney when your allegiance is in South Wales. It’s like you were migrating to Africa for the winter and got blown off course and landed here. A lesser spotted swan in a flock of seagulls.

I don’t either.

Waddle got on my tits with his miserable toys out of the pram comments about us. He went down in my estimation.

I dont agree. I listen to opinions based on whether they are supported with great arguments, not based on the status of the person expressing the opinion.

Stalin led Soviet for 30 years and yet I wouldnt agree with him in a lot of cases. Shakey Jakey might be the fastest greyhound dog ever, but I wouldnt take betting advice from him.

I said a while ago thought be Norwich, West Ham and us. You’re not really paying attention to my previous posts about needing 12 draws if we cannot win games. At this level we rarely get 2 goals and when we do we also seem to have a nightmare in defence too despite solid performances previously. Guess I’m looking at things a bit more scientifically than that old chestnut called blind optimism. Maybe get real? FFS! :D

Nah, you’re looking at things pessimistically!

You might be right, you might not, but you are pessimistic.

Norwich, Bournemouth, villa and West Ham are all struggling more than we are.

We are also more likely to get a win from mid/upper table opposition than from our relegation rivals.

Potters preferred style is more effective against footballing teams, yet today he showed he can adapt to get points from sides that play physically.

Yes we have several top sides to play but some of those will hopefully have CL on their mind as Liverpool have wrapped up the league.

I also think Newcastle will tank at some point. They are us from last season but have had more luck to date...that will run out (and may have already).

I think we will finish 2-3 points above relegation....based on what I have seen of us and our rivals.

It’s all about perspectives!
