Pavilionaire was quoting facts. It is not "absolute rubbish".

And a lot of it is the fallout from BREXIT....... And that does NOT mean that all Brexiteers are racist.

People making monkey noises at black footballers is fallout from us leaving the EU and that's a fact? Where's the evidence?

How about other countries in the EU, ones that aren't leaving anytime soon? Is racist abuse at football not happening there?

Anyone making racist comments, noises or gestures at Spurs should be given life bans. As yet there has been no evidence to suggest any were made.

I'm one of those old fashioned types that assume innocence until proven guilty.

They changed the criteria of what a ‘hate crime’ is within the last few years. That’s what it’s caused by. It has absolutely nothing to do with Brexit. That’s the narrative they’ve created though, and you’ve fallen for it, unfortunately.

But are there more crimes or are people just reporting everything now?

And it seems to me like they are assuming that it’s just the Brexit voters that are committing those hate crimes. Wonder why that is, as they have no evidence.

They don’t really think things through.

Why would there be evidence of someone making a monkey noise? What evidence are you expecting?

Well as every seat in the ground is covered by HD CCTV and 90% of the people in attendance are filming on their phones you would expect something to appear on social media. When similar things happened at other clubs recently, there were photos and video on Twitter, FB and the MSM within hours. The lack of anything from the yesterday is telling.

As I said before, if ANY 'fan' made those comments or gestures I expect them to get life bans.

To be fair most of the recent events have been by fans in the front few rows caught on TV. What other things recently have been randomly filmed in a crowd, caught on camera and made it to Twitter / FB / Media ?

It’s a nothing chant that should be water off a duck’s back to all of us.

Best response is “You’re too ugly to be gay.”

I remember starting (not originally) youre too ugly to be gay walking towards stadmk in response to loads of homophobic abuse. I was then dragged over by a copper for being homophobic yet not once MkDons fans spoken to even when they carried on as i was being spoken to. Very surreal

This could have happened at any ground in England. A minority of individuals think since the EU Referendum vote and Nigel's Syrian refugee poster they've been given a licence to be racist.

Attempt to derail a thread about racism by linking to your views on membership of the EU.
I would imagine this flouts the board’s new rule on such matters.

Loads I'm afraid, not so much leaving the EU but those who came out of the closet and took it on as "their" cause.

If you haven't noticed there have been far right protesters outside parliament for months whilst many far right activists are supporting (and attempting to join) the Conservative party.

In many thick peoples minds it's ok to be racist again because the politicians that "won" were openly talking about the "dangers of immigration" and the Prime Minister calls Muslim women "bank robbers".

Labour have obviously had problems too for different reasons.

Gary Neville called it on Sky the other day. If it's happening at "the top" it's no surprise it's happening on the ground.

Me too. But I am also willing to believe the victim. In this case the victim had no reason whatsoever to make it up. Add to that his team were winning the match at the time

Things have clearly got worse in England from where we were 4 or 5 years ago. The rise in documented hate crimes is a matter of fact and a by-product of that is more racism in and around football. It doesn't surprise me and I don't see it changing anytime soon.

I agree with everything you say apart from the last bit. It will change soon. What was tolerated 40 years ago is anathema today. And I hold my hand up as someone who monkeychanted Vince Hillaire at Sellhurst in the 70s. Yes there has been a recent increase from a small number of emboldened gammon. But the system (EPL, FA) is close to ready now to come down like a ton of bricks (I say 'close' because it hasn't happened quite yet but when it does....). If a player had reported monkey chanting as we saw last night only a year ago, he'd be mocked by the croud and ignored by the ref. Not now. It will take only one 'everybody off and the mugs forefit the 3 points...'.

Edit: stupid thread title.

Good points.

Gary Neville and Ashley Cole said yesterday that there was widespread racism against black players in their playing days from crowds, nasty stuff. Neville said he now feels guilty that he didn’t do anything about it. No one did.

All in the 90’s and 00’s, before Farage and Tommy Robinson got mass support.

Racism is huge in Italy, Spain and France. All EU stalwarts.

There is an argument that it's a reaction against the extreme left and woke culture.
I do fear the govenment getting involved. What have they ever achieved in football apart from punishing innocent football fans.
Are there not already laws against racism at football? It's time for those guilty individuals to do time inside for their crimes.

Oh I'm sure he thought he heard racist abuse. It doesn't actually mean there was any. If media pundits are calling for Spurs to play games behind closed doors they might need to produce some sort of evidence? Or do we just take his word for it?

As I said originally, if these 'fans' are shown to have racially abused him then I am fully behind them being given life bans.

On that point I remember when there was a media frenzy over BHA chanting Sieg Heil when they were in fact chanting Seagulls....

I think you should both extract your heads from the sand.

Why has racism in other countries got anything to do with racism in this country?

People making monkey noises at football matches is racist. Most sensible people would agree that racism and hate crime have increased since the Brexit vote. The two are not necessarily related, but .............

And I haven't fallen for anything. If you think it is acceptable to take the mickey out of someone because of the colour of their skin, whether it is classified as a hate crime or not, then that amazes me. If you think it is just banter, that is sad.
