It was Trossard's (well-executed) first-time cross (from Bissouma's long pass) that set up Maupay vs Palace (with a Burn dummy thrown in for good measure). I see no reason why he shouldn't get the assist for the Watford OG (who else would?), and would need a decent explanation as to why he shouldn't for Maupay vs Spurs. So I make it four assists for this season (although I can't offer a view on who should be awarded an assist for Webster vs Arsenal).

Gross has, apparently, got the assist for Maupay's Palace goal, as he flicked Trossards brilliant first-time cross into Maupay's path

The trouble with Gross relying on his chances / assist count is that you can’t definitely say he has created an assist from open play. I’m not sure he has created that many chances from open play either.

Now a goal from a corner counts just the same I know, and Gross is terrific with a dead ball, but you could argue with Mooy in the team, we wouldn’t lose a lot quality wise in terms of crosses from set pieces.

In terms of shots from set pieces, Dunky now seems to be a realistic option and I reckon Trossard would be sniffing around those as well.

I’m not calling for Gross to be dropped, but my view is that his place is seriously at risk. There’s massive competition for places in these positions now, especially if Connolly is back. Bissouma has staked a case to be an attacking midfield option and Alzate must be wondering why he isn’t in the team given his performances.

Very tight selection decisions to be made.

Flicked? deflected I'd say. Fair enough if it came off him last.

Give us that strong tall striker to get on the end of Pascal and Leo's crosses, and we will start smashing teams. Maupay has done absolutely brilliantly, and his goal reel this season is a thing of beauty, but that contrast alongside him (or Connolly) will be the making of us...

Hmm, it’s the pace and movement and the threat of the ball in behind that’s giving us the space to play through the midfield.

There is more than one way to skin a cat and Maupay has scored 3 goals this season (Burnley, Arsenal and Palace) from open play crosses. Not by towering over someone at the back post. Just with clever movement.

Neal and Aaron’s hold up play is terrific as well. I’m in team little and fast.

I agree with all of that, but it is true that the number of chances created by Trossard and Gross is high, and the number of dangerous crosses from Gross is very high, but the number of goals is low. There is more than one way to skin a cat and if we can have both ways in the same line-up we'll be more dangerous I reckon.

Plus this big strong striker should also have pace and movement. I'm not thinking Murray or Deeney types, more Tammy Abraham or Raul Jimenez. Tall strikers with good movement, good feet and ability in the air.

I like your thinking. We'll take 3 of them

Its what we were aiming for with Locadia,

Then our 'aim' was appalling, given that even by his own assessment, he's terrible in the air.

Connolly fit. I’d start him alongside Maupay. Biggest dilemma for me is whether to go 3CBs with wingbacks to stop theirs pushing on or go more 4-2-2-2

What a wonderful 'difficulty' Potter has now.

Select 4 from Gross, Propper, Stephens, Bissouma, Trossard

Plus we now have Maupay & Connolly available up top.

I think that it is most obvious that the player to make way for Stephens will be Bissouma who did ok against Palace but no more and didn't set the world alight by saying that on this performance you can't drop me. His performance wasn't that good. So a midfield 4 of Gross, Stephens Propper and Mooy.

Connolly is fit unless the club’s twitter account thinks it’s April 1st. Although he does have a whole day plus the warm up to survive :lolol:

Sorry, should have actually wrote what I meant rather than assuming people would know what I meant

If Connolly isn’t fit enough to last 90. Would much rather have him coming off the bench against a tired defence we can’t get a full 90 out of him.
