I came back from a long haul flight from Brazil a few years back and was placed next to a family with 3 young children. Honestly, the parents seemingly didn't know how to cope. They tried everything except some stern words. After about an hour of the oldest (who was by far the most annoying) trampling all over my stuff, screaming at everyone, crying and just being a pain in the arse, I reprimanded the child in some very broken Spanish (they weren't Brazilian) and I didn't hear a peep from any of them for the rest of the journey.
What most children need is strong parenting, not being pandered to at every opportunity.

We flew to Aus when Zef jr was 2 1/2, he behaved impeccably well. Both ways. The Virgin cabin staff were very impressed and showered him with treats, which probably helped a little. I seem to recall him watching a lot of pocoyo on TV, so listening to Stephen Fry possibly helps.
I have always been of the opinion badly behaved children are nothing more than a reflection of the tosspots who are supposed to be raising them.

A friend of mine travels for business a lot, in Economy.
He saved and saved for about 6 months to treat himself to an upgrade to 'Business' on his Emirates flight back from Sydney to Heathrow and eventually pushed the button, paying £1,400 do so.
For both legs of the flight a baby was in the very next seat screaming it's loudest on the hour, every hour, for the whole flight. Totally ruined his 'treat' and completely wasted his money.
Not the fault of the baby, not the fault of the parents - but he had to suffer, and totally wasted his money. If that had happened to you, would you think it was right and fair? No, you wouldn't.
So, I say this is a very good move. Let all the people with babies and kids sit in one area as the next step? I wouldn't have minded that when I had my own babies / toddlers (even though mine were impeccably behaved as toddlers in restaurants / on planes / out in general).

£1400 , wow I’ve paid that for premium VA to NY!! Love Emirates Business product btw, fantastic value including car at each end of flight and decent lounges, downside is they won’t be able to keep prices at this level for much longer.
Families with children are a pain in the arse at security as well. They always carry tons and tons of crap with them, spend ages sorting it out into trays and invariably leave something which flags up in the X-ray which can cause me further delays. Families with children should have their own security channel or be banned from flying.

That was in addition to his Economy ticket. Emirates usually text you last-minute upgrade offers for a discounted price, and this time he took it up (to his regret).
Then you get the goons who think it’s perfectly acceptable to take my carefully placed leather tote bag out of the overhead locker, put their suitcase in, and then stuff my bag back in wherever it will fit.
I’ll send you two down the family channel as well, you’ll soon see things my way

All this while they position their fat stinky arse in your face area whilst you are politely seated, the div with the oversized cabin bag probably has a large case checked too!
Then once the seatbelt signs are off up he gets and completely starts the process again.
