The judge has admitted to making an example of him, which does seem rather harsh to me.

"Throughout these proceedings you have shown yourself to be arrogant, thinking you are someone whose previous and current role in the public eye entitles you to be above the law," District Judge Sanders said.

"In fact the opposite is true - someone in the public eye should expect a deterrent sentence when they flout the law."

I've no problem with that. Joe Bloggs from Sidcup sways and lurches his way out of a motor after a night out - barely makes the local paper, nobody gives a shit. Barely registers.

Ex millionaire footballer and pundit does the same - national news. Sorry, but if you're in the public eye then its big news, and your sentence WILL attract more attention, and therefore act as more of a potential deterrent. Is that fair ? Probably not, but if you're enough of a bellend to drink-drive even when you've easily got enough bunce to hire a driver, and then use some bullshit "asthma" excuse for refusing a sample, then my violin is taking on microscopic proportions.

Saunders can DO one. Richly deserves his few weeks behind bars.

Bloody Worthing!
Half the chat on Brazil’s show seems to centre on previous pissups. The other half is on arranging future pissups. I’ve given up with it....tedious ‘banter’, poor presenting and Brazil in particular is a mannerless oaf. Talks over others, doesn’t listen to anything anyone says. Time he was put out to grass (not that he’d eat anything green)

This.

So send Joe Bloggs from Sidcup down also! I'm sure it hurts just the same whether you get bowled over by a celebrity drunk driver or a normo drunk driver. Judges should treat each case equally harshly.

Freed after 1 day of a 10 week sentence. Not sure what’s gone on there.

Out on bail pending an appeal, that'll be heard in October.

if the sentence is upheld I hope they double it.

Absolutely. Anyone who is speeding, then swaying and slurring after being pulled over and refuses to provide a breath sample should have the book thrown at them and get locked up. I was disagreeing to a remark that felt it was harsh for the judge to make an example of him because he's (relatively) famous.

It's because he refused to provide a specimen, (courts don't take kindly to people refusing as it's basically an attempt to weasel out of being caught pissed at the wheel), because his demeanour when stopped strongly suggested that he was pretty pissed, and because he didn't plead guilty until the last possible moment.

I'd also like to point out that nearly everyone who gets done for drink driving says they've "only had two pints", and that is almost always a total and utter lie.

From reading the articles that I have found about it, I would suggest a large part of the sentence was for his attitude when it came to court appearances.

He’s clearly messed around and wasted a lot of court time before deciding to plead guilty at the last minute to something that was pretty much apparent from the outside.

The judge has made it clear that he wasn’t at all impressed and the sentence has reflected that!

In laymens terms, he's a ****tarded **** and deserved more than he actually got. The law is very fair at times.

I hope he gets a large bill for costing the tax payer.

Maybe he'd gone full-on Allardyce, and only had 2 pints - of wine.
