Why the mocking hashtag? I thought you wanted a deal?
How can Parliament agree on a deal when they're not sitting? This prorogation also stops an important bill on domestic violence going through.

Don’t try to muddy the water, there is only one topic worthy of political attention at this moment.

Most people what an end to this now, so just let Boris get on with it.

Oh dear. No Deal Brexit doesn't end anything. If anything it prolongs it by a massive amount.

Liberal elite is a funny term.

It's a classic of the genre, akin to "do gooder" or "vitrue signalling", of trying to make people sound bad because they believe in a good thing. I would question the motives of anyone who isn't "liberal", since the opposite (illiberal) is a pretty damned awful thing. In the same way that people rail against "do gooders", like somehow being a "do badder" is a thing to be proud of. Also, who really has a major problem with "virtue"?

First blocking attempt now delayed until a full court hearing. #desperate

I see you managed to beat your friends Pretty pink fairy and Two Professors to make that post. Must make you proud to know that you are quicker on a keyboard than them

More kicking the can down the road, adjourned until 3rd September. (edit my correction of the date)

That's not the way I read those two tweets. I think the judge is basically saying 'let's not bother wasting time with the preliminaries of deciding whether or not to hear the case, and then hearing it - let's do the whole thing in one go, and you can have an extra few days to prepare, and it will still be done before Parliament is suspended'.

Agreed. It says a lot more about the person applying the label than the person being labelled.

I actually agree that it's desperate. While the court stuff is peripheral and might make some people feel better, the onus is on the actual MPs to get off their arse and block it through legislation next week. Johnson can largely do what he wants, but he is not above the law.

I believe that he has finally realised that a 'good deal' was a lie made up by the leave campaign that he fell for and therefor, by his own definition ('I would prefer a good deal to no deal') has defaulted to the same position as his friends Ppf, Two profs, The Rivet etc etc have held all along - 'No deal'.

Of course, it would be very simple for him to prove me wrong, simply by outlining what this 'good deal' that he constantly backed, consisted of ???

Parliament will have plenty of time to agree any deal proposed. And yes, I want a deal but I don't believe the EU will shift. The 'mocking hashtag' is because how quickly remainers resort to the courts because they don't like something that's happened, but something that is perfectly legal.

Interesting comment from Gordon Brown. Basically, if the EU extend the date, and we do go out with no deal, then Johnson cannot blame the EU because it will be his decision and his alone.

Still claiming to know what someone thinks, believes and wants. #Arrogant

It remains to be seen if it is legal. That's why it is going to court, because nobody is above the law.

Not when it's framed as a statement which is incorrect, no. But then life itself generally doesn't let people say incorrect things and get away with it all the time (except in Government, obviously).

Draft of email sent to my MP. I'm sure that everyone is capable of their own/better wording but just in case it's more convenient to copy, you are more than welcome:

Dear Sir Peter

As one of your constituents l should like you to know and to take into account my profound objections to the ploy of the Johnson govt to deny the Commons the appropriate opportunity for scrutiny.
I would urge you to join forces with other MPs who are determined to resist the profoundly cynical abuse of our Constitution by the PM.

I expect most MP's now have two email folders labelled 'remain campaign' and 'leave campaign'. More regular/vociferous campaigners correspondence probably gets classified as spam.

I was surprised to see your favourite publication managed to provide a balanced article on the latest developments. You probably missed it.
