I think we'll make a profit regardless, but anyway I'm only speculating about this deal...

Defo profit... but you can't expect a bundle of cash next season to keep us up this one...

Two more weeks and the window slams shut ..sigh

First window that I’ve felt ‘meh’ about. We have decent players in all positions. Whether they are good enough who knows but if we do end up getting relegated I will be less upset than I have ever been about a relegation. Last season drained pretty well all my enthusiasm for being a Premier League club. Also rans forever the way things are going so hopefully an enjoyable season, win, lose or draw. A couple of unproven players signed, which is what they will be should we sign them, is unlikely to make much difference imo. They all take a season to settle in anyway.

Can’t believe that I am so laid back about this

Likewise. Last season was horrific, mostly
Some of our existing players will probably step up massively this season
Some will prove to be as shite or past it as some people think
The new signings might be good, or shite
One or two of the kids will almost certainly step up and surprise us, one or two will be tried and won't be good enough
Potter will have a different tactical approach

Will it keep us up ? ****ed if I know, but it's a risk TB had to take IMO and at least we're going into the season not expecting another half season of utter dirge, followed by CH getting sacked before Christmas as the dismal run continued.

I have. I doubt we will get at least two new signings, one to replace Murray and a RB. There have been enough noise to suggest we are looking at those two positions.

It's been very slow for most premier league sides, there can't have been 60 signings made which equates to 3 per club so we are on par with several others. Surely it cannot be much longer before another signing arrives.

In previous years the summer usually starts with TB stating it will be a quiet summer and then 6/7 players arrive. This summer was a message of give GP some time and subsequently it may mean only 3/4 signings to modify the squad

Honestly I'm a little bored and just want the season to start now

Try telling Tony relegation doesn’t matter. Then you should be able to work out why we must invest in quality... ST & RB min, ACM too..

Whoever we sign will be a punt rather than proven and having left it so late, it seems clear to me that we are really struggling to attract the quality of player required, either because they don’t want to come here, or more likely because we won’t pay the going rate.

I understand and accept it though and it’s not my money, so why should I fret about it? The promoted clubs have bought quite a few players and one of them has spent a shit load, the other two not so much. We will be scrabbling around the bottom four or five at best, whoever we buy imo. I live in hope that it will be more enjoyable than last season, whatever the outcome

I cannot see us buying the minimum three players that you say we need and certainly not three who will slot in and be better than what we already have.

This
I can't get my head around how much money we are spending on backroom staff and youngsters that may or may not make it in the future, at what appears to me, at the expense of the first team squad. Surely Premier League money is easier to get than maybe unearthing a diamond

Great post. Just see it slightly differently. I expect the signings to come (at least 2 of them, because I am not 100% sure we don’t already have the required ACM). This is because Tony is a very smart guy and knows we must maximise our survival chances by investing, or he will lose a shed-load of revenue.

I expect these 2 signings to at least compete with the ST and RB 1st choice players. This is because Muzza has done well to hang on in there but age is against him, and Montoya has literally zero competition.

So, we shall see.

Every signing is a punt BTW. But the punts we need to make need to be lower risk than normal for us IMHO. So Championship or SPL or maybe major Euro league, rather than minor Euro league. But that latter point is probably being too optimistic!

We got bossed and outpaced in CM, leading to a whole load of PL defeats. Must be a priority..

Do you think that maybe Potter thinks Baluta and Alzate might be the answer to this problem. Didn't Dan Ashworth not so long ago say something like, sometimes the answer lies within the club.
