What worries me about him [Hughton] is the shocking away form and the failure to get our record signings integrated into this line-up.

It's not just the record signings that seem to take forever to get integrated. It is endemic through our whole set-up, resulting in the same players starting every game, regardless of how poor the the previous performance or result was.

I recall reading the following post by The Large One in 2017 and although it was intended by TLO to be as a positive, it did seem to be taking the art of pragamatism to whole new levels.

We had John Morling the Albion Academy Manager on the show this week, and he came in to tell us about the setup at Lancing...He said him and Chris Hughton and the senior management team have regular meetings, and at certain times Chris will ask John if there is anyone he believes ready to make the step up. If John suggests someone, they will be invited to train with the first team. When - and only when - Chris implicitly trusts them to do exactly what he wants them to do, he will consider them for the first team - of which the bench is usually the next step, when there's a space available.

For example, one player who has made the step up to the senior side 'would have trained 30 or 40 times with the first team squad' before being considered by Chris.

Sometimes, fortune favours the brave - especially in sport. No point fixing something that isn't broken but we are badly broken at the moment and so Hughton really needs to do something different.

Gross forcing CH to make a change prematurely?

Best shore up the defence to keep the score down?*

* Bissouma on - OK, that's fair enough.

If he had a proper run in the side, he would prove to be our best and most important player, I’m absolutely sure of that. He’s the real deal. Taking him in and out all the time can hardly be helping him yet whenever he plays he still looks better than those around him.

And if you’re interested in stats, in the all too few minutes he’s had on the pitch in the premier league, he averages more tackles and interceptions per game than Stephens. He is a different type of player to Stephens but is more than capable of doing the defensive side of the game as well as being far superior going forward. Watch the Palace game again for proof of this.

Bissouma has started 9 games and has came on in a further 9. We’ve seen enough to know they’re different players. Stephens is the better DCM, Bissouma is better played in front of a DCM. That’s where he’s won possession. The DCM role is all about positioning and keeping possession. Stephens has a lower pass accuracy too, but that comes from playing long balls which are difficult to hit.

That being said, I’m a fan of Bissouma and I’m pleased he now has an opportunity in place of Groß. That’s the player he needs to displace for this formation.
