I'm guessing the home reserve game wasn't 1971/72 as we didn't play Liverpool in the cup that year. Or is this some kind of trick question?

You know what? I haven't got a clue. I went to Liverpool for the FA Cup game in 1990/91 and don't remember anything about a home reserve ticket stub. But I missed out on 1982/83, so maybe it was then?
However, I do recall something about having to attend a 1987/88 Freight Rover Plastic Windscreen Bicycle Repair Man Trophy game against Southend at the Goldstone to be sure of qualifying for a ticket to the FA Cup fourth round tie v Arsenal a couple of weeks later. Anyone remember that, or am I properly going mad?

That was the 2-1 win! I had 50 tickets to dish out on the coach so not sure it was reserve game ticket thing! Derby tickets were sold at the charlton ressies game 17,000

Mr. Balkham kindly let me out on parole to allow me to answer this! I remember Notts County reserves in 1967 to get a Chelsea at home cup ticket. 18,000 odd I believe. Not bad for a reserve game. We drew the Chelsea game 1-1 in front of 36,000. Lost the replay 4-0 in front of 54,000 at Stamford Bridge. I saw the home game, but not the away game. My dad wouldn't let me because I had to go to Cubs. However, he did go. He said it was so crowded that the only time he saw the ball was when it was hoofed up in the air.
Is that the right answer CG?

And spare a thought for Notts County, who finished 4th on the same points (62) as Bournemouth! (or 87 points in today's terms). I remember that season vividly. I was 14 at the time and lived in Hackney in London so my trips to the Goldstone were infrequent, when visiting relatives in Hove, albeit I would attend all of the London games. I remember watching us beat Villa 2-1 on MOTD with Willie Irvine and Kit Napier doing the honours. For the Rochdale game I listened in on BBC Radio and remember my emotions when John Templeman scored, recalling that we had to lose, and either Bournemouth or Notts County had to win, to pip us to 2nd place. Thankfully, we finished 2nd. I recall that we scored 10 in two back-to-back away wins: 5-3 at Shrewsbury (I think all 8 goals came in a 28 minute 2nd half flurry) and 5-0 at Halifax. We actually scored more away goals than home goals that season. I still have a scrapbook of news reports of Albion matches I kept during that amazing season and they bring back very happy memories. Yes, we kept scrapbooks in those pre-internet days!

I bunked off sixth form college (Horsham Collyers) to watch us lose 3-0 at Notts Forest in the League Cup in 1986/87. Worth every minute just to see my old Forest Boys Secondary School pal Franco Massimo come on as a substitute. Mind you, I got a hell of a bollocking the following day.

My favourite Albion season. It was a slow burner with Albion the outsiders and Bournemouth, Villa and Notts County with (on paper) much stronger squads. Bournemouth had 4 or 5 players who went on to play in Division 1. By way of contrast Albion were a collection of experienced Division 3 players to which Bert Murray (transfer fee paid for by fans!) from Chelsea and Brian Bromley from Bolton were added, both with higher level experience. The climax to the season was tremendous. Sadly the euphoria was short lived. The following season Albion failed to compete, the team broke up and we were effectively relegated by February.
