Bacon is a essential part of Saturday and Sundays breakfast.

As someone previously said , I wouldn't want to be in a world without it.

Smoking causes cancer yet smoking cures bacon but bacon causes cancer. I think I've confused myself.

Cheap chicken is no less healthy than posh free range.

Corn fed chicken is actually less healthy than standard.

I eat chicken because of taste not health and there is a world of difference between 'posh' free range chicken and the cheap supermarket chicken pumped full of water to make it look plumper. As for 'posh' - getting it from a decent butcher actually makes it cheaper than the supermarket crap.

Yes it probably increases your risk of developing bowel / colon cancer by 20%. But the risk is a low number, so a 20% increase is not that much.

Over your lifetime, your risk of developing a colorectal cancers is 5%
Eating 50g of bacon per day probably increases that by 20% - making the lifetime risk 6%

The truth is that we don't actually know exactly what causes this. It might be that carcinogenic elements are added to processed meats. We know that burning food increases carcinogens.

To be honest, there are much bigger things to be concerned about. Like looking both ways when you cross the road. Or indeed, not going out at all, given that pollution is much more likely to give you cancer than bacon.

19% of all cancers are caused by smoking (86% of lung cancers)
3% of all cancers are caused by eating red meat (21% of bowel cancers)

Smoking - 1 million
Alcohol - 600,000
Air pollution - 200,000

I'm so confused.

Ok, I'll pick this one up. Give me a bit of time and I'll combine all of the various research and advise the board of the proper lifestyle for minimum risk.

Based on 5 minutes analysis, I don't think anywhere is going to be safe, but I'm leaning toward a remote area of Switerland, living off part-organic carrot tops & red wine, not breathing and certainly not looking at pr0n.
