Treasury this morning.
so the Treasury are going from claiming those levels of effects over 15 years (the previous round couple of weeks ago) to immediate impact in the next two years? they cant both be right, so which is it?... the chancellor better have a good backpeddle plan, because he's talking the economy down massively, to the point of possible negative impact even if we stay in.
Edit... this is just a reheat of the last claims, based over 15 years, with a note throw in to make it look more immediate.

EU referendum called off after both sides run out of bullshit
The pro- and anti-Brexit campaigns have agreed to cancel next month's planned referendum on Britain's EU membership, after both sides admitted that their reserves of bullshit, hyperbole and unsubstantiated conjecture had been fully depleted.
"We have over a month of campaigning left, and the argument has already boiled down to 'what would Hitler do,'" political commentator Dave Oxbridge told us. "Short of debating whether the EU ****ed your mum, this referendum campaign simply has nowhere left to go."
Members of the public admitted to being confused and alarmed by the campaign to date. "I'm really worried that Brexit could leave my family eating out of a bin," one voter told us. "But if we stay in, we'll have to share the bin with a family of Romanian gypsies, living off straight bananas, with only a low-powered toaster to ward off the winter chill. So I'm undecided."
Meanwhile, in lieu of the referendum Prime Minister David Cameron has agreed to go mano a mano with rival Boris Johnson and a digestive biscuit in a traditional Etonian approach to resolving the Brexit issue.
"Competitive ************ may be an unorthodox means of settling geopolitical questions, but what's the alternative?" one insider asked us. "To resume a referendum campaign in which an ill-informed electorate is bombarded by a series of increasingly outlandish and apocalyptic claims, Michael Gove and Nigel Farage are never off the television, everyone invokes Hitler, and the whole pointless charade is only happening because the Prime Minister is too weak to control his own party and is locked in some kind of absurd grudge match with someone he did his GCSEs with?"

Contest away but I think you now have a better understanding of the issue and realise it isn't quite as clear cut as you first thought. I won't ask you to explain why the reports showing a net cost for EEA immigration are inaccurate and the ones that agree with your opinion are right. No one's changing their minds here after all.
As you rightly point out in a later post we have woefully under invested in our infrastructure so the additional costs of playing catch up to our fast growing population has to be factored into the costs of immigration.
Mass migration is the major cause of our rapid population increase.
It is estimated that net migration plus births to foreign-born parents has accounted for 85% of UK population growth since 2000.
Under the official ‘high’ migration scenario the population is projected to rise by around 500,000 a year – the equivalent to a new city the size of Liverpool every year.
75% of this increase will be down to future migrants and their children.
Recent Population Growth
Since 2000 the population of the UK has increased at a faster rate than any time in the previous 90 years. Unlike previous episodes of growth, the major reason for this increase has been the high level of immigration.
We should both be able to agree that limiting (not stopping) immigration would be sensible until the process of improving the infrastructure has at least had a chance to catch up. As we wouldn't want to discriminate against non EU Nationals that means gaining control of EU immigration, impossible to do while we're in the EU.
If you're driving towards a cliff it is sensible to apply the brakes ... sooner rather than later.

Are you deliberatly being stubborn or are you stupid? These are possible solutions. The root cause is a low birth rate, maybe banning abortion would put that right.
There are no good magic wand solutions to this screw up. One thing that wont survive all this is women's status, the future belongs to those who breed. a 1950s solution may well be the lesser of evils.
I think it's important to avoid a condescending tone in this debate, so let's refrain from that.
As you'll have discovered, there are a great many studies that support the economic arguments for immigration. The question you raise is a good one, with the lack of investment in infrastructure should we try to pause immigration. I don't think that means we should leave the EU. Unfortunately, the two are impossible to disconnect. It's highly unlikely we'll be able to negotiate a pause on immigration even if we wished to. That leaves us with the option of leaving. As most studies show - and today's treasury report is just one in a long line of consistent reports - the impact on the economy would be such that we would find it hard to invest in basic infrastructure let alone infrastructure designed to deliver growth.
I'm happy to discriminate against non-EU nationals as these nationals are not part of an economic bloc of which we benefit from.
You are right to point to migration being responsible for the population rise. As the native population growth has been in decline/stagnation since the 80's and 90's that is not surprising. It's a fact. This won't change by us throwing up the borders and hoping it will all go away. As the OECD points out, the UK may think it is worse off than everyone else, but this is a global issue.

Again, £4,300 is a crooked fact. The is the figure that is averaged out across every household. It is still a monumental figure and would cause significant damage to the economy, but it must be seen as an average figure. Both Remain and Leave must talk in facts.
