Right, this thread has been around for long enough now, so time to 'spoil' it. So will those clever sods who think they can see the emperor's new clothes kindly explain it to those who believe that a group of bricks such as depicted generally can be classified as 'a wall'?

I agree. I was told by an optician once that I did not have the right sort of eyes to see the optical illusion type books which were popular a few years ago.
Yes - see my post above, which might be relevant.
You've 'seen' this one thought right? It's different to those illusion type books, because this one isn't an illusion, it's real.

That snake head thing (or little stone) is the ash end of a cigar. The cigar is sticking out of the wall. Look at the lines to the right of the ash, they're straight, because the cigar is straight. What you think is a gap in the wall is actually a cigar.

Thanks for trying, but that's no spoiler at all. I'm one of the 36% of people who've checked that link that can't see anything except a wall.

So can you tell us in plain English what it is that we're supposed to see? Or maybe the joke is that it is just a wall?

There is a cigar sticking out of the wall at right angles. The little grey stone is actually the ash at the end of the cigar.

This cigar is in the middle of the picture:

I didn't think it was a gap in the wall. Was it supposed to look like one?

Honestly can't believe that some people didn't see the cigar after half a second. This is worse than the blue-black/white-gold dress.

I couldn't see it after half an hour. It was only when I read something that described what else there was that I could then see it. I can now not un-see it.

Well I never saw the gap/crack, but I think most people just see a wall of bricks with dodgy pointing. So if you didn't see a gap/crack, what did you see between those bricks?

This one I understand better, if people don't see the straight lines of the cigar, then I guess it's easy to miss. The bloody dress though - people were just being stupid.

Actually I can kind of understand it, if you aren't wearing your glasses or something, but you can see the tobacco leaves, that is what i noticed straight away.

Agreed the blue-black dress thing made me want to blow my brains out.

My first thought was that it was a bit of rusty metal sticking out. But the suggestion that it was a cigar (well, more a cheroot, I think - don't cigars bulge a bit in the middle?) was fine too - it could be ash on the end, rather than just an unusual bit of decay and discolouration.

The suggestion was fine too? Could be ash? This isn't an optical illusion, it really is a cigar. They stuck a cigar in the wall, and took a photo of it.
