No sign of the promised striker

I emailed Barber and he's effectively ruled out signing anybody of any real value to the 1st team, saying we have 4 strikers and 4 CB's already. I wouldn't expect to see any other first teamers signed, only development squad players from now

And yet on his interview on seagulls.co.uk he explicitly states on 1.59 minutes that they want to 'increase the firepower up front' this window.

I guess you may have misread his email.

I cant wait to read.this email. Im convinced Barber would freely give away sensitive information related to transfers in this manner

That interview 12 days ago right, a lot can change... I have no doubt that they have been working hard to land a striker, but I can't see it happening until the summer. He reiterates some points from that interview in his email, which I fully expected him to do. I sent it only to say thank you from a fans point of view for the season so far, I have a lot of respect for the man.

Unfortunately, however, strikers are not in plentiful supply - and particularly not in the January transfer window when there are many teams competing for similar targets.

Thankfully, we already have 4 strikers - 1 of whom has been injured for several months but will be available very soon - and a number of other attacking options.

We have 4 centre backs, all of whom should also be fit and available for selection within the next few weeks to a month. In the meantime, we also have Liam Ridgewell on loan as additional cover.

Kind regards, Paul

That's not him ruling anything out though is it? Just stating what we have right now.

So really it's just your own pessimistic take on his words, where actually he is being cautious rather than ruling anything out.

What a bizarre comment from you. Paul Barber apparently emails you (although I debate whether that is actually from him) with a couple of vague comments about the current status of the squad and you say he has ruled out further signings. The club are very secretive about these things (see Hughton interview re Sidwell at the weekend) so they're hardly going to show their hand in an email to a supporter.

So you think we'll sign another striker and have 5 in the squad then? Personally, I read that as, 'we have plenty, if someone comes along at a reasonable price, with plenty of goals, then we'll go for it.' But with 3 and a bit days left, unless they've been putting in bids, I just don't see anything happening. I did also say, 'effectively', just to cover my back against the pedants on here...

It certainly doesnt seem to have the bold statement you claimed.
Im sure as well like with all our other transfer business bids are being made quietly in the background and hopefully one will stick before the window shuts

Nobody said we definitely will sign a striker. However, anybody who believes that a football club Chief Executive would confirm their plans for the rest of the transfer window to a supporter by email needs to take a look at themselves.

Unless they start 'waving about' a cast iron pledge from Man Utd that they won't recall Wilson at any point, then yes I think we'll sign another striker.

The golden number 4 could be a vague clue. I have a massive hunch that baldock will leave if we bring someone in.

OK. *Looks down.* Still think I'm right, nothing's changed...

You may well be right eventually. I am far from convinced we will sign a striker. However, I don't think the email is a sign of that and I am sure the club are still working, and will be working until the end of Monday, to try to bring a striker in. And, even if we are not, I doubt Barber would email a fan to let them know.
