As a reasonable 47 year old man you make an involuntarysign at the TV when they come up on the screen during MOTD and then chuckle to yourself for doing it.
I do something pretty similar when Pardew is on the screen. A double Gareth Hunt combined with an 80's "Deacon" face. I can't help myself, but hope to grow out of it by the time I am your age. I am 46 in two weeks.

I clear my throat and gob an imaginary lump of flob everytime I drive past Selhurst, which is at least once a month. My passengers, when they are not football fans, tend to think it's childish and pretty disgusting. I have given up trying to explain. My wife HATES it when I do it too.

You can't do that without making the grunty 80s "deacon" noise, mneeeerr mneeerrr or something like that. Highly inappropriate in company of course but entirely suitable for lone Palace watching or with like minded close friends. You won't grow out of it, i've given up trying.

First rule of grammar pedantry is make sure you don't get hoisted by your own petard. If you have trouble understanding then ask the nice lady who ties your shoelaces in the mornings to explain it to you.
