What struck me about that list

Athletics and Boxing is over represented in terms of winners.
So is F1. Damon Hill and Nigel Mansell won it TWICE. TWICE FFS. Lewis Hamilton has won it but is hardly popular as well. Lots of Petrol heads out there.
I can't see a Cricket winner. Flintoff and Botham are the 2 biggest names in cricket over the last 25 years.
Same for Golf. Rory has no chance even if he wins the Open.

I'm going to scoop up the 8s on Murray. He is best price 11/4 to win Wimbledon. I know next to nothing about Tennis but I read that Novak was prioritising the French open this year and Murray is bang in form. With no obvious contender, that's back to lay and cross fingers he wins Wimbledon

I was thinking Murray too. Must be the BBC demographic: as the slightest hint of a British tennis player doing well has always led to mass votes in this. Look at Greg Rusedski winning it, and TIMMY always used to get thousands of votes too despite losing "heroically" (but inevitably, to much better players) in the Wimbledon semi finals most years.

Another Murray Wimbledon win would sew this up for him, unless England win either the Ashes or the Rugby World Cup.

unless England win either the Ashes or the Rugby World Cup.

I'm not convinced that will happen either. As the Ashes is on Sky, BBC will not have any coverage on the night instead focusing on Dodgeball or Badminton for which they will wheel out some dodgy coverage where Johnathan Pearce is providing some over excited commentary. I think the Rugby is on ITV, so they have the same problem allied with the fact there isn't a player stuck in the public consciousness like Johnny Wilkinson was.

I'm more convinced on the Ennis argument but even then it's not the Olympics and I think its on Channel 4. Hopefully Otis is presenting again

I'm might follow you in here, if only for a bit of interest in Wimbledon.
I did think about Jimmy Anderson but my concern is that he might not get the favourable conditions he needs to get a bucketful of wickets.
I've also taken the macaroni on JE-H by way of a small saver.
AP is bound to hit the frame so might put him is some F/Cs

I was thinking about doing the same. Unfortunately my Stan James account has long since been restricted (Would you believe they restricted me for picking the winner of the fecking Derby) leaving me at 16s best price. I'll pass.

I usually like a punt in this market but I'm stuggling to find a bet this year.
Chris Froome is fav for the TDF (as short as 6/4) yet as big as 28/1 for SPOTY which seems a bit odd (what do you think Stat Brother ?)
Anthony Joshua next year maybe.

CF 2/1 fav with PP now

I'll still be surprised if he gets it, it'll mean a pretty poor show by everyone else.

He'll be winning it because half a dozen French spectators treated him so badly, not because of his impressive tactical victory.

Hamilton is surely a shoo-in for this: just on the grounds there are more F1 fans than cycling fans (not to mention that F1 is on BBC and the TDF isn't)

Can't say any other contenders at all - McIlroy, Murray and Farah have all blown their chances. An Ashes cricketer perhaps: Joe Root? but it would take something Bothamesque to derail Hamilton

Froome only came 6th with 5.2% of the vote when he won his first tour in 2013.

I guess he was suffering from the post Wiggins, and non born and bred, fallout. Still cant see him getting it this time, which is a real shame as most likely, with the way this sporting year is going, it will go to someone who hasn't won the biggest event in their sport (Hamilton-please no aside).

Adam Peaty - three golds already at the world championships. The trouble is that swimming is not widely recognized outside of Olympic years.

Even in an Olympic year, he'd be nowhere near - 2 of his 3 golds are in non Olympic events.

What odds are BOBBY ZAMORA?
