Going to do Millwall away by train. where would people recommend drinking and what station is best/nearest to ground?

Train to South Bermondsey, then through Cowards Way. Do not drink anywhere close to the ground, anywhere around London Bridge should be fine.

I find New Cross Gate is a better station to alight at/return from, as it is on the main line into London Bridge, (certainly from Horsham, my nearest station), and only a 10/15 minute walk from the New Den. To get to South Bermondsey, you would need to change trains at London Bridge.

The only possible downside, is that if the police insist on escorting us back to the station, it will be South Bermondsey they frogmarch us to, we won't get a choice.

Drinking wise though, as other posters have said, stay well away from the area anywhere near the ground.

Loads of pubs at London Bridge ( I use the the Old Thameside Inn, a Nicholson's pub) then it's a 4-minute train journey to South Bermondsey. Albion fans will no doubt be held back for 20-30 minutes and then be escorted back to the station. It is no longer really threatening and to be honest the Millwall fans behaviour in the stands nearest us last season was comedy gold. Shame this isn't a Saturday fixture though

Ahh good, our local Ruff Tuff hard man will tell you all where to drink right near the ground, and get involved in some right ard stuff and a good old ruck...............just bear in mind he will not even be at the game himself!!

It's just embarrassing. They are in the upper tier of another stand yet still give it the slit throat gestures. They know there is no way either set of fans would ever get to each other. The police have it on lockdown from door to door, I couldn't have felt safer last time I went.

I suspect that you are well aware of the reason!

I wouldn't have expected it at Rotherham away but apparently it kicked off there today. If the game is a 6 pointer or even just 'wall needing 3 points it isn't worth the risk.

NEWS RELEASE: Post-incident investigation to be conducted following Rotherham United v Millwall FC game

South Yorkshire Police are to conduct a post-incident investigation following disorder at the Rotherham United v Millwall FC game at the New York Stadium in Rotherham today (Saturday February 28).

After Rotherham United scored in the 85th minute, a number of supporters attempted to gain access to supporters in other parts of the ground.

Several stewards were attacked, leaving two with minor injuries, and additional police officers were deployed to restore order. As fans left the ground, further disorder occurred.

A number of police officers also received minor injuries.

No arrests were made today, but having secured comprehensive evidence including detailed CCTV footage, we will be conducting a post-incident investigation into this disorder, which fans of both clubs played a part in.

Chief Superintendent Jason Harwin said: “Officers have worked with both clubs prior to today's game in an attempt to prevent such unacceptable behaviour.

“Again we see a minority of individuals spoil the event for many others. They aren't a true representation of genuine football supporters and have no place in football. Such action can not be tolerated

“I thank the bravery and courage of stewards and police officers in tackling such criminal acts and we will now review evidence to identify and bring to justice those that are responsible for such criminal acts.”

if you want to do Millwall, your best bet is to go Bersmondsey Tube, then wander down St James rd and along Southwark Park rd to the Blue Anchor or Ancient Foresters, wearing a West Ham shirt. that will attract attention. or was that not the sort of trip you had in mind?
