I really do fear for Paul Barber now. Maybe it would be nice to give him some respite over Christmas before you start again.

Two down, one to go. Then the very necessary blood-letting is done.

Paul Barber won't be going anywhere. He is doing his job.

Sami was a good guy, who knew not what he was getting into. Burke has delivered on a number of targets, but failed in the recruitment department. Neither of these chaps deserve hell and damnation, I hope they both get some kind of package to ease their lives over the coming months before they get themselves going again. I particularly hope they DB can put this aside as far as possible and relax with his family without letting this ruin all their Xmas', and then reassess in 2015.

NJ is proving to be a real club 'servant', and it would be nice if a role could be found within the new structure for him, although I do not want him as manager for the time being. I also hope PB is allowed to continue to run the non footballing side of the club for a long time, he is a professional and knows his job. Hopefully our new manager will be given free reign with team matters and PB need not get involved there.

To all those calling for more heads to go, please just stop and think a little, no one wants to fail, we all aim to suceed, and right now is a good time to wish 'Goodwill to all men,(maybe even women too!)', Bad joke!

Merry Xmas everyone.

I care deeply about my club and reading your post actually brought a tear to my eye. I completely and genuinely agree with you and echo your good wishes to them.

Merry Christmas to everyone at the club and to all our supporters.

At this rate even Gully must be worried about getting the boot. Barber is probably at this moment shitting himself whilst writing a spin-filled article for the Boxing Day programme, everything looking great, don't forget to pop to the club shop etc.. :)

Barbers ok as long as he stops preaching to the fans all the time, I also think nj has to go as well, total clean sweep, and let the new man have TOTAL CONTROL over all football matters

I completely agree with this. Two correct decisions for Hyypia and Burke to move on, but now they have I don't bear any ill will towards either. Our training ground and academy are superb and if Burke did run their set-up, then he should go with genuine thanks and the best wishes for the future.

You are right about Upson, I apologise.

My point was that we didn't seem to significantly weaken things under Garcia, which included some dealings by the recruitment setup.

The last point I was trying to make is that it is quite clear that for the last year or so our signings have been done on a budget. I don't think anyone would choose to take a punt on the likes of Toko Nzuzi if they could have £2 mil to buy a proven Championship midfielder. But we clearly can't do that.

As said above, I am not defending Burke, just not sure replacing him will prove the quick-fix everyone thinks it is. But I hope it will be.

We WON'T be replacing Burke. That is the KEY point. Thankfully, we are going to hire an experienced MANAGER, you know, one that can actually recruit his own players / be accountable for recruitment.

Sami and Burke got what they deserved for their respective failures. Should have been axed about 2 months ago. Jones will need to go too. Sorry, but ANY decent manager will want to bring in his own assistant.

Bloody hell - one slightly mis-used word and you're talking to me like a child, haven't you got anything better to do on Xmas eve?

My KEY point is that I don't think bad decision making by Burke is the ONLY reason we have a poor squad, and unless the right manager is given more money to spend than we have done, there is no certainty that the SQUAD will be any BETTER.

True but it could be ramped up a bit :)

Edit: Joking though, I don't have a problem with him.

You should have a problem with Jones. He needs to be sacrificed to make way for the decent experienced manager we need. You know, the manager who will want to bring in his own assistant.

Or, indeed, any not-decent manager. Don't forget Hyypia had Sammy Lee signed to replace Jones, only to see him walk out on his contract...

In hindsight we now know that Sammy Lee saw the writing was on the wall.

No we don't. It doesn't take a detective to work out why he left: was offered a job in the Premier League on, you have to assume, a far bigger wedge than the contract he'd just signed with us.

'Slightly mis-used' or just plain wrong? You need to re-read Tony's comments about Burke's departure, especially noting the word re-structure. The budget was there, Burke spent it unwisely. He got sacked.
